Tonight's the night indeed.
>>
why listen to the old man
>>
>>129247739
You can listen to his old records.
And even his new production has been top-notch in the boomer category.
>>
>>129247739
why not?
>>
>>129247739
Old man, take a look at my life.

I'm a lot like you were.

>>
Cortez the killer is still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
>>
>>129247590
His use of guitar feedback is incredible I just don't think his folky voice matches the raw power of his rock music even if it is distinctive
>>
>>129249770
I kind of like that mismatch. Usually people making noisy, hard music try to sing in the same way and you get very tryhard macho vocals that mainly sound like they are trying to be cool. Neil sounds honest and true to himself, he's not putting on a voice or trying to be something he's not. Same reason I love Ozzy Osbourne and like pretty much no other metal music
>>
>>129247590
neil is (politically) annoying some times, but he really is a truly based legend.
they sure af don't make 'em like that anymore
>>
>>129249285
the harry styles thread is that way --->
>>
>>129249880
If you believe David Crosby when he said Neil's political songs were all done for attention and he never really believed the words he sang.

I could see that
Neil seems like the kind of person who simply can't give a fuck about anything

I'll have to check some of his solo stuff eventually
I love Country Girl from Deja Vu

>Cortez...what a killer
Kind of on the nose there, Neil

>>129254720
i must reply to say i really enjoy him but yeah i can't anymore because despite his talent, he's mindbroken by the common sense, proven policies of the right. many such cases in the art.s

A southern man don't need him around, anyhow. I do like a lot of his songs though but I never listened to any full albums.

>>
>>129260245
it's true that none of his album (in 5+ decades...) is perfect throughout, there's alway a couple of stinkers that ruin a string of good-to-legendary songs
>>
>>129247590
Well he can't fuckin sing. It's a disaster every fuckin time his mouth opens. Good on the guitar though.
Fuck whoever gave him a mic, ever.
>>
>>129262321
Guaranteed he sings better than you
>>
>>129249936
I don't believe David Crosby. His old ass cried bitch tears at the end of Ohio when they were recording it. He's the guy going "Oh" and "Why did they die?" during the outro.

He's probably right though. I doubt Neil cares about most of his old political songs. A lot of them are p bad too.
>>
>>129260820
holy pleb taste! just listen to Decade if you don't have the attention span for the deep cuts zoom zoom
>>129262321

1966-1980 14 years of good and sometimes amazing music, the rest is pure shit. No one can change my mind on that.

Neil Young is one of those singers, the guy from BTO and that "bang a gong" song are others... no they can't sing. I have enjoyed Youn'gs music with the vocals stripped out. Maybe I fucking hate Canada because I like Rush with no vocals too.
Tiny Tim is actually a good performer.
>>
>>129262631

nah the 90s were fine: Weld, Sleeps With Angels, Mirror Ball (and arguably Ragged Glory, Broken Arrow; Dead Man is interesting; Harvest Moon has some fans but I don't get the appeal)
after 2000, yeah it gest dispensable. It ranges from average (Psychedelic Pill has some great moments) to reeeally mediocre (Glendale is vile) or just awful. A compilation should collects a dozen of decent songs tho

Don't listen to any of his '60s and '70s crap. Start with Neil and the Shocking Pinks and Trans and work your way thru his '80s stuff. Also, his work with DEVO in the film Human Highway

He's very good, it's comforting to know that many newer folks are enjoying his compositions.

>lost in space, I heard you were lost in space
>that's such a lonely place for you to be

neil is a rocker but so much better as a chilled out folkie. he's got that easy breazy kinda feelin in his mellow kind of songs. I think he's one of the best folk or country guitar players imo. listen to his guitar on thrasher or tell me why. ambulance blues. I mention those 3 songs because I've done my best to learn and play most of his songs on guitar. it's quite tough to get it right. he uses a lot of hammer ons and pull offs within the chord changes. it's more technical than you would think, I mean, it's just folk or country right?

>here's some guitar tab & chords sites I've learned from. they're accurate but you won't find any extensive guitar solos

I don't listen to Neil for his politics.
for me I separate the art from the artist
I'm still jamming his music after 35 years of first hearing it.
My cousin introduced me to his catalog many years ago
If some people don't get it than it's just not meant for them. The same can be said for Bob Dylan, another one of my absolute favorites.
People will shit all over them and completely disregard them without even seeing their true greatness. again it's not for them
It's for us who greatly appreciate and understand what good music is

his 80s output is hilarious in how all over the place it is. trans is surprisingly good though
his 21st century output is mostly mid to shit, but that's hardly an indictment given how long he's been putting out music
>>
>>129247590
Where do I start
>>
>>129273377
I'd say Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
>>
>>129273377
Buffalo Springfield
>>
>>129273377
Everybody Knows This is Nowhere/After the Gold Rush/Harvest is typically considered the trio of albums that are his best work.
if you like that listen to his other 70s albums
after that I'd skip to his 90s music which is a bit more eclectic from harvest moon to outright grunge with pearl jam like mirror ball
>>
>>129254720
>>129260672
nah but fr, why cant chuds create art?
>>
>>129247590
He wrote one of my favourite protest songs of all time, Ohio.

The reason to that is because you're a flaming faggot.

>our government
He's fucking Canadian. I would be embarrassed to get citizenship in another country and start calling it "my country" and "my government".
