If you're a zoomer or younger millennial, were these games formative to your taste in music in any way? Which one had your favorite tracklist?
>>
Both of these series helped me discover music "on my own".
Harmonix (Guitar Hero I and II, all Rock Band games) had the better setlists. Activision (Guitar Hero III and later) threw everything at the wall to see what stuck.
Best setlists come from Guitar Hero II and Rock Band 2.

I only had one Guitar Hero game. I don't remember what songs were on it, probably a bunch of horrendous radio buttrock like Queens of the Stone Age and Linkin Park.
>>
>>129261662
24 years old here, Guitar Hero III played a pretty big part in forming my music taste because I played it all the time with my dad, who had already been playing songs from its setlist since I was born.
>>
>>129261662
unironically one of the best games of that generation and an amazing tribute to The Beatles' legacy
>>
>>129261662
Not formative, they were like a multiplier.

Guitar Hero Live was my favourite even tho I had no internet so I couldnt use the main feature that had like 300 more songs.

I played gh 3 and I can't remember the name of the song I like on it

>>
Yes. Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero 2 were my favourites
>>
>>129261662
Probably my dumbest and most obscure childhood crush. Also Casey Lynch from GH3 of course.

Guitar Hero exposed me to 70s and 80s rock
Rock Band exposed me to 90s and 2000s alternative

Loved these games
>>
>>129261662
Rock Band 2 had the best playlist. Despite my current favorite bands being featured, I didn't really like them when I was younger. "Stop Me if You Think You've Heard This One Before" was a shitty pick for the Smiths.
>>
>>129263129
wish the guitars weren't so expensive, would love to get clone hero with the best songs from all the games
>>
>>129264154
I have an xbox xplorer guitar in fantastic condition, with original packaging that I’m willing to part ways with for a reasonable bargain if you’re interested.
>>
>>129262930
The beatles is not the kind of music you want to play on guitar hero/rockband
>>
>>129264499
Does it connect to PC directly or does it need a dongle?
>>
>>129264547
It connects directly, and it has the breakaway cable if that means anything to you.
>>
Rock Band 2 had the best track list by a long shot but Guitar Hero World Tour introduced me to Sunny Day Real Estate so big bonus points there even though Rock Band 2 later on got the first three tracks off Diary
>>
>>129261662

I'm still pissed that Activision killed Neversoft by forcing them off Tony Hawk to do Guitar Hero slop for the rest of their existence.
>>
Rock Band got me into playing real guitar
Wasn't a good thing cause apparently guitar was gonna die

>find a thread about Clone Hero on /v/
>didn't even know it existed, download it
>dig up my old PS2 Guitar controller and wireless receiver and buy a dongle so it works on PC
>play a few songs, holy shit this is sweet
>spend hours troubleshooting how to activate star power mode by tilting the guitar like you could on PS2, finally get it working
>discover Rocksmith shortly after and never open or play Clone Hero again
>>
>>129261662
Not really. No. I don't ever remember going out of my way to listen to Kansas after playing GH 2.
>>
>>129262930
This game was a big factor in putting me down the Beatles rabbit hole and becoming a big fan.
>>
>>129266141
Guitar is back, anon. Hip hop died this year. Pick it back up. Avoid making butt rock or home depot type beats
>>
I thought it was cool when they introduced the keyboard in RB3. Shame it took that long and the games were running on steam at the time.
>>
I'm still bummed we never got that Led Zeppelin Guitar Hero game. Would've introduced so many more kids to Zep.
>>
>>129261662
kinda, Rockband was way better than Guitar Hero when it came out because you were allowed to sing, it revolutionized party games.
>>
I bought that White Zombie album because I liked Thunderkiss. There were only two good songs on it.

I also ended up losing my virginity to Green Grass and High Tides, but that's what was playing on the Weather Channel. We were using it to cover up our various noises.
>>
>>129261662
I never played any of these and wasn't allowed to have video games growing up.
>were these games formative to your taste in music in any way?
Growing up on local buttrock radio in the car and hearing Disturbed did more to inform my tastes than anything else.
>>
>>129266816
>O Wai-ai-ai-ai!
>>
>>129266292
Oh no we didn't get more bands like Greta Van Fleet... We truly are living in the worst timeline.
>>
If nothing else there certainly was some overlap, as I was a typical le wrong generation music listener. Getting to Hangar 18 and Free Bird in GH2 blew my mind though.
>>
That game got me to play real guitar when I was a kid, but I didn't really care about the music other than the songs I liked before

But it's funny, to this day I'll always point out if a song was in guitar hero or rockband if it plays somewhere
>>
>>129266931
>as I was a typical le wrong generation music listener
Same but with nu-metal in 2011, People forget that zoomtards in middle school back then didn't even listen to Korn or slipknot, if it wasn't metal/deathcore or the sappiest radio rock like Disturbed or BFMV, it didn't exist in their world. It was fucking grim, man.
>>
My dad really loved playing the drums for Rock Band lol, he was pretty good too, he always did tasteful fills where most people would just spam the snare
>>
>>129266934
I forgot about the second half of the question. I probably have a connection to Rock Band 1's soundtrack the most
>>
GREEN GRASS AND HIGH TIDES FOREVERRR
>>
>>129266247
rocksmith is fine, but it doesnt have the multiplayer aspect of C/GH and rockband
>>
>>129261662
no
NFS Most Wanted, Ape Escape, and Burnout Paradise created my music taste
>>
>>129261662
I never played guitar hero or rock band. I unironically discovered more music through 4chan, rym, youtube, and the internet than those two
>>
>>129261662
Post-millenial / proto zoomer here (gen of '97).
Yes, I started playing guitar because of Guitar Hero III and friends in middle school who also started playing guitar because of the game. Best setlists were GH3 and RB2, no doubt. The games started going to shit when they started adding landfill indie instead of metal and rock as the primary songs in the setlists (GHWT, GH5, RB3 to a lesser extent).
Best songs were One by Metallica in GH3, and then Painkiller in RB2. I'm talking about best songs from a teenage POV and gameplay standpoint, not best overall. Yes, I was a metalhead.

The note detection on Remastered is iffy as it is, it would be a million times worse with latency involved.
>>
>>129266141

>Guitar Hero World Tour
Yelyah appears in that game as an unlockable character.
>>
I was like 13 when Guitar Hero 2 was out. Where I grew up the guitar was expensive, so we played it with controllers. The game aesthetic was also great, I enjoyed it a lot.

not necessarily the games themselves, but the rhythm game community i was part of definitely gaslit me to appreciate /mu/core
>>
>>129261662
>were these games formative to your taste in music in any way?
Not in the least, I knew most of the songs from my parents anyway. I only really played GH3 and RB1 and 2, I guess out of those I liked GH3's songs the most.
