That doesn't make that much sense to me, because a lot of the major bands have blatantly metal riffs or cite more traditional metal bands as influences. Some major bands started off as more traditional metal before moving in a nu-metal direction.Even leaving that aside, there's this thing called convergent evolution. You can sometimes have bands starting from totally different places who end up with similar ideas.

But Beneath the Remains and Arise are definitely thrash.But, I don't think you're entirely correct. I don't recall much thrashy stuff on Against or Roots. Maybe a little more on Chaos AD . BUT they have a few short songs on each of those albums with a kinda hardcore punk vibe (Like "Biotech is Godzilla", "Dictatorshit", "Against", and "Drowned Out").Id say both Derrick Green and Max Cavalera as basically just shouting for the most part (outside of a few songs where they sing). It's not really rapping. and the lyrics were usually pretty simple.
