I’m planning to go through Boris’ entire discography, probably following a flowchart.I’m looking for albums that help you “get” Boris as an artist along the way.albums that make their sound click, or help the rest of their discography make more sense.I’m also curious if there are any albums that should be listened to beforehand — records that kind of set the context and make later releases easier to appreciate.Basically, what are some good entry points or checkpoints that lower the barrier and help you understand what Boris are doing?
>>129268589Start with Pink then SmileListen to Akuma No Uta then Feedbacker and Amplifier WorshipFinish with Rock Dream or Gensho
>>129268589Their biggest influence is the Melvins. Usually the albums people like the most are Feedbacker, Heavy Rocks, Pink and Smile. It depends on how much you like noisy drone with a lot of feedback. If you do, then you'll love stuff like Absolutego+, Dronevil and Vein. Altar with Sunn O))) is also very good, if you don't like that one you probably won't like any of the more drone heavy stuff. Flood is probably my favorite drone work of theirs. The biggest problem with all of these albums is you have to have 60-80 minutes to sit down and listen to them start to fnish. On the other side there's the more conventional rock stuff like Heavy Rocks, Pink and Smile which all build on each other. And Boris kind of lost it for me there, Attention Please, Heavy Rocks 2 and New Album were all mediocre to me, and I haven't kept up with them since.

>>129268589Rainbow is probably my favorite, mainly because it features Michio Kurihara. Amazing guitarist with great tone.
Everything Boris has ever put out can be found on Internet Archive, free to download in FLAC, mp3, ect. Asobi x Boris is fantastic.I also like Requiem For The Abyss and Live! Amplifier Worship.
>>129270695>Asobi Seksu covering FarewellHuh. Had no idea this existed. Boris just played a setlist including Farewell at the next city over from me and I missed it. Retard. *hits self in head
>>129270297I love Boris the psych rock band more than Boris the metal band. For that reason Rainbow is my favorite as well.
>>129268589>flowchartI recommend using a venn diagram instead. Also use Saint Vitus to get your feet wet before total immersion.
