Speak & Spell is fine for what it is but A Broken Frame is as good as its rough situation allowed it to be. Martin did his best for having never been a primary songwriter. He picked up quick though - Construction Time Again has its classics, Some Great Reward is genuinely accomplished, and the following run of records speak for themselves.
