Everything he does is a half-assed bad copy of something that was already created: Eno, Detroit Techno, avant-garde composers, his label buddies like Luke Vibert or Tom Jenkinson. Then his label tries to promote it as the new sound he just inventend or whatever to his normalfag audience who just eat whatever he dumps. His whole persona is just marketing, and that's why he's so popular. He's a fucking hack.
k
>>129278272his music is not bad, but very low effort stuff that you do in 5 minutes
He doesn't seem to have a tude and he makes some bangers. You know who's a fraud? Maybe the biggest one going in electronic music right now? Venetian Snares.>what if I made music in 117/83 time? It's literally completely soulless.
>>129279385>what if I put a 'p drawing on one of my album covers lolol
Radiohead is technically electronic so you are wrong by default.

>>129279456That's because they're the biggest frauds in all of music history
>>129280916Precisely.
it's clear you don't know shit about the genre if he's the biggest hack you can think of, you tourist
>>129279334it does not seem like it https://youtu.be/5wIOBBodoic?si=BMNtB_3D_V_0yrJQ
>>129280987that's a shit video, just namechecks a bunch of software that RDJ used a few times to flashy effect without getting into any serious techniques. the bulk of RDJ's tracks were made on more or less traditional gear that he made the best use of.
Well, I like him
>>129282820powerful
>>129280979lol ok reddit
>>129281313making the best use of whatever gear your using seems like a pretty not half-assed thing to doit was a big part of what made sophie what she was as well, using existing tools in a more refined manner than most othersyou are correct that marketing also plays a big part though, that's true in both cases, but I wouldn't called aphex half-assed, just nothing is *quite* as wild as hero worship makes it out to be, still good tho
>>129283378i was criticizing the video, not RDJ. not sure why you're restating my opinion to me. I never said anything about marketing or half-assed itt also.
>>129283449I thought you were OP soz
>>129278272Thing about his music is that it still seems stuck in the 90s. Like he's doing the same thing just with better technology. That warp records sound.
>>129278272I gave it a good shot and he sucks, he makes ambient, he is hardly melodic and it bored me.
>>129283944plenty of non-ambient melodic stuff from RDJ but if you already made up your mind, who cares
>>129283980Like?
>>129283986tell me what you listened to already, I'll see if it's worth it reccing more
>>129284020NTA. I just heard one song of his on YT that was literally like two chords repeating over and over again. Forgot the name. Never heard anything else. The way people talk about him this had better be like Wagner was in the 1800s.
>>129284038you heard one song out of 800 released, don't be surprised you didn't get the full picture.
>>129284038>>129284075both of you types are obnoxious. this board is trash, don’t defend good music here against retards using strawmen bullshit. let it go
>>129284075Well what's his masterwork then?
>>129284099try druqks or rushup edge (under his pseudonym the tuss). if you expect wagner-type music, you'll be dissapointed, but it ain't no two-chords minimal stuff
>>129284139meant for >>129284107or if you want track recommandations, >>129279594
>>129284107listen to all of windowlicker (3 tracks) and shut the fuck up
>>129284188i'm a big aphex fan butwindowlicker EP is not that great the single is enjoyable at best, equation and nannou pretty forgettable
>>129284099anon is having a moment of clarity
It's funny the new 20 year olds posting aphex twin on their tinders... Why the hell do new women love him? What the fuck is the appeal. Maybe its my city (philly) but these whores love to pretend to like dog shit music
>>129284218i’m a bigger aphex fan, i met him and ate mushrooms with him in cornwall and windowlicker is the best release next to rushup edge (reissue) and analord, fukq
>>129284255you win
>>129284248ask them
>>129284248>meet girl from philadelphia>listens to alex glol
>>129284281I get it but he was cool before the internet teenagers got to him. Teens and 20 year olds ruin ever music scene with their politics and shit
>>129284301internet teenagers got to aphex pretty much right out out of the gate in the 90\s. back then it was the IDM mailing list and three or four fan sites listed on yahoo.
>>129278272Why does nobody ever mention that he looks like Jay Kay?
>>129283944ambient music is good though

I've been meaning to make this post for a while. I posted this comment under Stone In Focus on Youtube a good few years ago now, and I’m blown away by the response.I didn't think much of it at the time. I just typed exactly how I felt in that moment, posted it, went to sleep and forgot about it.Fast forward a couple of years and I click on a notification about a reply to it. I'm greeted with thousands of likes and hundreds of the most profound comments and conversations. I had no idea.People talking about relatives dying, getting off drugs, breakups, marriages, different philosophies on life. I would recommend anyone to play the tune and have a read through. It's a journey.I still get either a reply to it or a DM most days. A lot of people ask for an update. People also ask about me. They ask about music, which is really nice. I love Oasis and mixing UK Garage records. I'll link my Instagram for anybody that wants to chat. The first ever DM I got about the comment was from a guy that said he saw it in a magazine in France. He forwarded it on to somebody that he cared for and said "relatable". And now they are together with 2 kids. Which is amazing to me.I would love to know if there is anybody else out there that I might have helped along the way. I'm not for one second saying that I have massively changed your life, and I'm also not taking all of the credit, that goes to Aphex Twin for that incredible track. But even if the comment has so much as brightened up your day, that would be cool to know.So to close out, I'll leave you with the question that my first ever DM asked me.Did it change your life in any way?
>>129287242This guy is literally AFX but 10 times more pretentious
>>129284218https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfPb9sdhi48the Windowlicker acid edit is pretty good. but yea that EP in general is kinda phoned in.
>>129287760>People talking about relatives dying, getting off drugs, breakups, marriages, different philosophies on lifeso, classic Youtube comments stuff>Did it change your life in any way?idk
>>129287789Their music is nothing alike, Hecker is firmly in the 20th century computer music tradition alongside the likes of Xenakis and Curtis Roads whereas Aphex is basically just techno with extra steps.
>>129278272>Everything he does is a half-assed bad copy of something that was already createdbait used to be believable
>>129290339>baitProve me wrong.
>>129290951Usually it'd be up to you to prove your claim first.
windowlicker is a good trackinteresting music videos.that's about it
>>129291019That's about it about Windowlicker EP, or the whole RDJ discography?
