>has all the music that Spotify, Google, and Apple doesnt.this program is probably the greatest thing ever created, its given me obscure stuff that I thought I'd never find. its like a million second hand record stores rolled into one.Soulseek appreciation thread. whats your greatest find on it?

Most of my shares cannot be found anywhere else, no hoarder bullshit, always lossless where such a source exists. Rare needledrops of Arthur Russell music not covered by Audika, the promo CD for the first version of bmbmbm by black midi before they scrapped the Big Brother sample, rare b-sides and bonus tracks by indie acts like Maxïmo Park, Peter Bjorn And John, Dutch Uncles, the definitive, ESD remasters of the complete discography of Wendy Carlos, the best-sounding masters of The Holy Bible, the Joy Division albums, and Bowie's albums up to Let's Dance, complete 600 DPI scans of the Nausicaä manga, ISOs of the original pre-Renewal DVDs of Evangelion, my own translations of Leos Carax's "Pierre or, The Ambiguities" and Paul Schrader's "Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters", and many, many more miscellaneous rarities and projects. Stuff so rare you couldn't buy in a way that the money would get back to the artists or their labels if you tried. Come find it all.Current username: Rrobynne Mk. II
>>129279715No, what.cd was a lot better.
>>129279745hexagon. everything he's got is locked and its extremely rare. the guy is just waving his dick
>>129279614>has all the musicWell I listen to obscure breton bands and Soulseek doesn't have many of them
I organized my music library recently, partly because it would help people look through what I have more easily. You're welcome.
Who here can beat these upload stats?
>>129279715What.cd was infinitely better and more intuitive for comparing different masters of the same album. Easy to access and differentiate the original CD release, newer remasters, japanese import exclusives, expanded editions, etc. All of those releases were clearly laid out on one page. Soulseek is a complete mess and 95% of FLAC albums on soulseek have no log or cue, so verifying what exactly you downloaded is a huge pain
>>129280073post username or it didnt happen
>>129279614Thanks for reminding me, gonna check it to morrow for some songs i cant find atm.
>>129280187Hmm, nyo. Here's what I used for Foobar File Operation though.
>>129280109>>129279823nope. what.cd was great for mainstream slop, but not for obscure hard to find stuff.its a quality obsessed site for audiophiles, not music lovers.
>>129280223so why are you bragging about your music library yet are too terrified to let us see it?
>>129279614I use it to get paid DLC songs for Rocksmith.
I use it for Kindle books, its a goldmine
>>129280109Just search Soulseek by catalog number? That's what I do to compare specific masters of the same album
>>129280246What.cd had something like half a million distinct releases. Do you really think slsk has that kind of catalog?
It's got TV shows, films, movies, video game roms, and of course music. It's one of the best programs ever. The phone version is nothing to sneeze at either. Although if you get it on the playstore, be sure to go to the github and go back one version. The latest doesn't work for some reason.
>>129279614No one has Thudersteel in flac.

>But soulseek doesn't have have x!>Someone proves them wrongWhy does this happen in every thread
>>129282567>>129282527fyi to really make sure something you downloaded is flac get something like spekhttps://www.spek.cc/p/downloadand open the file in it. some people don't know what they're doing or believe it or not actively lying and share lossless that isn't lossless. if you threw an flac file into spek and it caps out at 16khz then it's not actually lossless. 20khz+ is lossless. this only really matters for archival or sampling purposes.
>>129279764
bring back gatekeeping. stop telling normies about this please
>>129282730It works itself out don't worry about it. The most normalfags of normalfags won't care because streaming services already have everything they want. People are less normal and who are interested in expanding their musical horizons will benefit. It's fine.
>>129282591you dont have to defend the software. if they dont like it, GOOD
I've never seen the autism you guys keep talking about, I just download albums and no one ever messages me
>>129279764i dont share anything and it doesnt surprise me that ive never encountered you. shitty people have shitty taste.
>>129282609they have programs to check for mpeg encoded files now grandpa, you dont even need to look at the spectrogram anymore
uhh... you do know that most of the files on there have cp embedded in them right?
>>129282900mpeg? i just want to flac for god's sake.
>>129282996right... which is why you want to check that your flac files werent created from a lossy source such as mpeg
>>129279614Wtf is this shit, it wants a username and password. Fuck that.
>>129285049you can use mine
>>129280095easy>>129285049>passworddoes it? dont think Ive ever needed a password for slsk
>>129282609You can use foobar to verify your files.
>>129286763Yes, you need a password to log in.
Ive used soulless for years but the folders I shared i can never find on there leading me to believe they weren't really shared. Any advice? I have at least 2 or 3 albums that I was unable to find on soulseek that id like to share on there
>>129282582give it back Pedro
>>129282876>i dont share anything>talks of "shitty people"how ironic.give it back Tyrone
>>129286993when you search on Soulseek your own collection doesnt appear in the results.
>>129286993Add yourself to your Users list. If you can browse your files properly through that, then you're good.
>>129286993you probably don't have your ports forwarded. a couple years ago i got a new router and not too long after i remember thinking "hmmm no one's downloaded anything from me in a long time when i used to have a couple albums downloaded off me every day, what's going on?" and then i realized i never forwarded the port.
>>129282257easily, the same way that Soulseek has stuff that isn't on Redacted but everything on Redacted in on Soulseek.
I found stuff on what.cd I couldn't find on slsk but it's generally not like I couldn't find it on slsk, it was just readily available on what.cd and I'd have to wishlist it on slsk.
>>129287188>Soulseek has stuff that isn't on RedactedAt the most some shitty 128kbps files downloaded from YouTube.
Ok but why "regular" people would ever need FLAC?In fact, none needs it. Did you idiots even understand that Its just compressed uncompressed files, right? Is not even yet the real thing....You could even just use M4A or AAC or POW format and it would be listeanable and unoticed it "bad quality"
>>129287453you need it for when your mp3s inevitably get bit rot and you need to re-encode new versions of them
>>129287453>Did you idiots even understand that Its just compressed uncompressed files, right?ESL aside, I think people do realize FLAC is a lossless audio codec. It's in the name
>>129287297>nyooooo i need my post-avant jazzcore in lossless!!!!!
>>129287631>lossless>yet is substantially smaller than raw .wav filesyeah i smell some bullshit somewhere
>>129287631I've seen that retard before, he's always claiming that FLAC isn't lossless for some reason. Just ignore the faggot.I don't think he understands what compression is.
>>129287651its lossless, and compressed. you can convert a wav to a flac and back and get a bit-perfect copy of the wav you started with. no information is lost in compression.encode a wav to any lossy format and information is gone forever. if you convert it back to a wav the new wav is not the same as the one you started with.cmon dude this is basic stuff
>>129287651It's open source, you can look at the code and verify it does what it says instead of just speculating like a tardhttps://github.com/xiph/flac
