My friend keeps telling me to listen to current 93, he owns lots of their albums and is a fanatic for this band. Is it worth doing so? I tried listening to one of them and it was just folk music or something, don't really see how you'd want to listen to more than a few songs of folk music.
>>129283759You'll either get it or you won't, but you have to try a lot of different songs, because they're all different. One of my favourite artists
>>129283759If you like your stuff a little more raw/noisy/"rocking" and less folky maybe try check out the track from the Om split? https://youtu.be/EqeVNs_WF24Normally lyrics are the last thing I care about but his poetry is very beautiful. Try listening to one of the big ones like Of Ruine etc. or Thunder Perfect Mind while going on a walk at sunset and just let it frame the experienceI like drone so I got into it through Sleep Has His House
they're alright when david tibet isn't singing

>just folk musicWell if you have some kind of stigma against folk music for no reason, there's a lot you won't like of theirs. However their early material is a lot of great noise and sound collage kind of music if that's something you enjoy. The last several years of music is more ambient and even touches on some post rock sounds if that's something you enjoy. But with a band with a massive catalog and many different sounds, you're just going to have to let your mind be curious and dive into various albums and see which ones stick, similar to listening to Swans, Psychic TV, or Coil. They're an "experimental band" so it's up to you to decide if they're worth listening to. It's not like they're an essential band to get into music like The Beatles or Led Zeppelin. My favorite albums are Sleep Has His House and The Light Is Leaving Us All, then I would say the early singles and splits are my second favorite collection of songs.
>>129286534Soft Black Stars is some of his best stuff though.
