First for nothing. Absolutely nothing at all.
>day 90 of waiting for my fender mod shop build
I'm too poor for a Music Man, so I'll have to settle for an Ibanez AZ Prestige
>anon waiting on his mod shop>anon who had his $7k gibson lost in the mail>anon waiting on his amp back from the shopwtf how unlucky are you people
>>129305513music man quality is as bad as Ibanez now. at least you aren’t getting burned as bad
Does it really take 5-10 years to become decent at guitar?
>>129305626Depends on the definition of decent>like youtubers play in their videosAbsolutely, probably even more than 10 years>like youtubers play IRL2 months
>>129305626you can become an intermediate specialist in a genre in 12-24 months
How do you... escape... tone prison?https://youtube.com/shorts/5uPx5wF2uFg
>>129305641How about "decent enough to play covers"
>>129305513Why not a Sterling?
>>129305666>SatanNo time at all if you sell your soul
>>129305626Started bass at 15. I started playing clubs at 19 - CBGBs and L’Amour Rocks and other shit around the five boroughs. The main issue is that you need to get in the early reps as soon as possible and hit successes until you hit the intermediate plateau. These reps are home practice, jamming with others, and stage time. Each of those has a difficulty level, stakes, and nuances. You can kiss all those home-perfected sweeped arps bye-bye when some asshole heckles you mid-set or your hand cramps from dehydration and your calluses start to bleed because they aren’t developed.Essentially you need to double your rate of failure. Here’s an example: which part of your hand do you use for downward slides? Upward slides? Pick slides? Volume knob and pickup selection mid-phrase? Adjusting a flat string’s tuner? ALL OF THESE AND MORE will set you apart from novice to intermediate.
WELL WELL WELLthank fucking God
>>129305813remember to wait 24-48 hours before opening the boxif any were going to explode it's that one
When you sand the back of the neck with 220 because it's sticky is when you're intermediate. iykyk
>>129305666>666Stat with this, satan:https://youtu.be/0BS9oBLrDw8As soon as you can play that, you mastered your first cover. Small steps but I remember when I learned this (and could sing it), it unlocked a loot crate. Then it’s just a matter of learning little phrases that you’ll hear in songs. For example:Gary Numan “Cars”NKOTB “The Right Stuff”Lipps Inc “Funky Town”All of those feature the same Lydian-esque hook, so you now can start filling in your mental repertoire and cut down on the time it takes to get something performance-ready.
>>129305500have you reached out to them? mine took a month from order to shipped>>129305832ffs i forgot about about that ;_;
how many mental illnesses do you need to type like that

What guitar accessories should I ask for my birthday? Besides the obvious, id est: capo, guitar strap, tuner (I want to get an automatic tuner).Gimmicky, or very useful accessories please :3I can’t decide on a harmless acoustic pickup.
>>129305863hammer jammer
>>129305863fret wrap fastfret grease maybe some ebony bridge pins for your acoustical
>>129305847yes they had an "unexpected shortage of both the body and neck components" and I have been "prioritized for early 2026"
>>129305870It looks scary lol
>>129305863you should kill yourself for putting a pickup in a Martin
>>129305880damn that fucking sucks did you get something weird like a rosewood neck or something
>>129305863You should do what my family does and request a spreadsheet of things you want only to ignore the very spreadsheet they asked you to send and buy you a bunch of random clutter instead of any of the 4 things you asked for.
>>129305879Oh yeah I think I settled on ebony, because I don’t know if I can trust fossil mammoth or walrus ivory to not be poached, plastic is gay and well actually maybe brass, because they have to cut down the ebony and that sucks…Brass would look sexy I think.
>>129305892>rosewood neckyup, because they were offering them for freeI shoulda figured they'd run outlmao
>>129305882What part of harmless don’t you understand? Like I don’t want to modify it but I’d like to have the option retard.
>>129305901brass or those martin metal ones are cool and zingy but with old instruments the pin dowel holes tend to be kinda nonstandard so youd have to ream them out (scary) to make them fit flush
>>129305914I guess someone of your skill level or lack thereof wouldn’t be upset with the quality output of an acoustic pickup
>>129305863Get a brass slide (light as you can find)All the other accessories are gay. A slide can give you the ability to play guitar in a way that is not achievable. Plus, it’s very easy to sound legit in open tunings - “Loser” by Beck is open D with slide. Avoid glass on acoustic because you’ll end up dropping it.
>>129305903kwab sorry anon
>>129305933wanna tango huh tough guy? I don't hear no riffs
>>129305933I can’t decide because so far they all sound shitty… I guess I’m holding out for one to appear that doesn’t?>>129305918I’m sending her into Martin in a few months, to get work done on her, just a few things for now, I don’t want to pay for a neck reset or refret, too much money and she sounds great as is, I’ll wait a few more years. They’re going to fashion me a wooden pickguard and redo the headstock logo, and replace those pins of course, so I’ll ask them about ebony.
>>129305952you’re wasting your time. the lr baggs hifi duet and yamaha atmosfeel are the best and they still don’t sound right and are invasive. just get a different acoustic you don’t care about
>>129305894I’m sorry about that…>>129305942Will do! My clumsy ass would break a glass one, I suppose dropping a brass one wouldn’t be much better considering it’d dent.
>stuck at my pointless job again>music dream fading with every passing dayI hate my life
>>129305971its called a dream because at some point you gotta wake up from it
>>129305958Or better yet an electric, I can finally buy one now since I got that amp. I’ve been looking at Gibson Firebirds today I love the sound and look of them, very sexy. I’ve also been interested in Stratocasters, Thinline Telecasters and several others that aren’t coming to me.Maybe a Kramer, they look so cool.
>>129305863Fossilized Mammoth Ivory nut. I've got one on one of my guitars and I love that a piece of a an extinct animal that lived 200,000 years ago is living on through my guitar. The fact that it sounds great too is just a bonus.
>>129305991>this ngl got pleistocene elephant jizz on his guitar
>>129305991I want to do it but the reason I’m hesitant is because there is a possibility it could be contributing to elephant poaching, I love the idea of using ivory from mammoths because it hurts nobody. I don’t think anyone is gonna bother microscoping the pieces I buy to determine if they’re modern or not.But I would probably go all the way with it, nut, saddle and bridge pins. I actually think my current nut and saddle are elephant ivory…
>>129306027>he seriously thinks a 70s D18 used ivory anywhere
>>129306056000-18, shows what you know.
>>129303603i like it anon, looks cool.do pay mind to where the jack will be so you dont either hit yourself in the nuts or break it when sitting with it.
>>129306059Oh right, surely THAT el-cheapo bottom of the line model will have ivory instead. My mistake.
^_^
>>129305863A couple tuning forks in appropriate frequencies, or a nice metronome.
>>129306076Why are you so rude : ( I love my guitar.
>>129306085Capital idea, I will most definitely get a metronome, I’ll be honest I’m not sure why I’d need tuning forks though.
>>129306083>paying $7k for a butt plug
>>129306085>432hz
>>129306116idk why it took dean to give the V a symmetrical v headstock its so intuitive idgi
I’m also trading this 12 string Höfner I bought later today, I’m going to try and get $300, I haven’t really been able to play with it because I never changed the strings or adjusted the action.I wonder if I’ll regret letting it go, I’m doubling my money but I’m really only doing it out of necessity. And I haven’t used it in the 12 months plus that I’ve owned it so it’s probably for the best.
>>129305978Every god damn rock band you've heard ever never had to
>>129306162nah Hofners are generally ass and require more money to be put into them than they're worth just to be playableespecially so for a 12 stringI'd honestly be surprised if anyone wanted to buy it
>>129306225nta but aspiring luthiers/hobbyists eat those and harmony acoustics up nowadays
>>129306246fair enough, yeah
>>129306225It’s very loud and has pretty flame maple, but thank you for your input.
>>129306264
I mentioned yesterday that I started playing about a month ago, I got my friend to buy a guitar and we were gonna play together today. It was actually really fun. My first time playing with anyone else. We smoked joints and played for hours until like 1 in the morning. I taught him the minor pentatonic scale and how to play the riff from feel good. We were able to get synced up which was a very interesting feeling. Its crazy how you fan sync up rythym-wise. At a point, I couldnt really distinguish between the audio from either amp, especially playing with my eyes closed. Really fun and thanks to the guy who suggested hopping right into playing actual music together day one. Here's our guitars. I also bought an sf300 pedal which sounds really good.
>>129305863I forgot to mention I’m getting strings tomorrow, if anyone has any recommendations (only Martin for now, and nothing above a 12 please).
>>129306304martin retro monel
>>129306301>old enough to post on 4chan>started playing a dead instrumentpfftWhy?You're too late in multiple ways
>>129306301the black one is the coolest guitar ever posted on /gg/
>>129306301theres no feeling in the world like being locked in with someone else while playing an instrumentits better than sex
>>129306310Yeah those are the ones I started with, I guess I’ll get them in 11s this time instead of 12s.
>>129306336to you maybe
>>129306339its incredibly gay especially if they start singing its super mega cringe
>>129306336Thank you, that ones mine, but he got his for like 500 bucks which is awesome. The star shape is actually really comfortable for classical sitting position. It was really interesting seeing how the different pickups made the guitars sound different when we swapped amps. Our guitars sound very different. So do our amps. He has an orange crush 35rt and I have a katana 100w with the sf300. The different length necks were interesting too.>>129306339It felt really good actually. We even swapped guitars at one point. Im gonna roll another joint and play more guitar since I dont have work until tomorrow.
>>129305960>>129305960Nah, brass is thick. Get a light one. Most people play it on the ring finger, but I’ve always used my pinky (easier to fret chords). Also, you SHOULD corrode it a bit with your sweat - it will grip better over time. There’s lots of cool slide tricks and it opens up the range of the guitar to obscenely high pitches past the fretboard, or microtones to mimic carnatic music. Best slide player I’ve ever heard is me, but besides me, Derek Trucks doing the wailing blues singer imitations is money. Kottke and Fahey are probably more your speed on acoustic (Vaseline Machine Gun). And you can also slide harmonics and sheeeit
/gg/ why don't you have a buddy that you practice with on a regular basis?
