For dream pop, I've had Beach House's self-titled LP on repeat lately. I think it's very underrated relative to their other releases. It's a little more raw and it's clear they're still finding their sound. I like that, personally. Not a big fan of RYM but it's sitting at 3.34/5, which is insane to me.

>>129328683highly recommend the Blackwater Holylight and Tijuana Taxi albums it really isn't that grim they both bring a certain dark, heavy uniqueness to the genre that gets away from the typical sound a lot of people complain about with the genre
>>129334435Thanks, but I'd already heard them both. Wasn't just being a needlessly negative Nancy. TT is garbage, and BH is just OK but not interesting at all.

did sonic youth influence shoegaze? the combative ai keeps telling me yes bc MBV cited them. so i guess its like a frankensteiner from the cotwins, joy, and sy idki
>>129340987probably had a big role in guitar dissonance and unorthodox tunings. A lot of their lesser known albums have a lot of what shoegaze going on with them. MBV also cites the Beach Boys as a primary influence too.I don't think any one band influenced what shoegaze became it's just certain aspects of it like you could say Sonic Youth's noise rock with Beach Boys' pop hooks is what Jesus & Mary Chain was going for
>>129340987They predated Shoegaze and directly inspired a lot of it, especially when it comes to using noise to create atmospheres and playing around with tunings to achieve different textures
>>129338115kinda boring in retrospect, the live album they released recently made some of the songs more compelling and louder, they subdued all the louder aspects and texture that were on Deceiver, I think it's their worst overall but I don't hate it it's just kinda there
>>129338115As soon as they went away from the cool Beach Fossils kinda sound and went straight DKFM-core it went to shit imo
>>129342877What do you consider DKFM core?
>>129342983any of the generic overproduced dream-slop that you constantly hear there to fill out the rotation between the actual good shit. I can't even give examples cus there's just hundreds of these bands. Looking at their most recent plays like 90% of this is filler background noise.
>>129318924found this in the archive, how legit is it? What're we changing?
>>129343500Don't love that LSD and the Search for God, SPC ECO, pinkshinyultrablast or Asobi SeksuCheatahs, Aerofall, Slowdive, Narrow Head and Have a Nice Life all had better releases in that decade

>>129340178>Julie>good bandpick one
>>129340987>did sonic youth influence shoegazeSonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr’s YOURE LIVING ALL OVER ME and BUG, the wall of guitar on albums like Hüsker Dü’s ZEN ARCADE and NEW DAY RISING… Ride loved those mid 60s Byrds albums… but most importantly? 1st Wave Shoegaze was all about the mindset — how far can we take PSYCHOCANDY, C86, and progressive guitar songcraft. That’s how I heard the best of it, anyways… before it became a ritualized ‘you have to have *this* amount of reverb and *this* amount of chorus and *this* amount of *delay* type formula, shoegaze was a truly forward thinking and new proposition.
>>129347550I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with people saying Julie isn't good in here
>>129348332The music is decent but it's part of the emogaze trend that is being done to death
>>129343500Man what a time capsule. Clearly made in like 2015 since it's missing the entire back half of the decade. If you really wanted to make a list of 25 essential 2010s releases this list would basically need a complete facelift. That said this list included A Sunny Day in Glasgow which means it's based and should never be revised.
>>1293483322020s shoegaze bands shouldn't release full length albums and I'm not joking. They ALWAYS release a couple great EPs before shitting out a mediocre full length. Julie basically pioneered that formula

>>129361893yeah but that's sorta just how albums used to be conceived back then. EPs were often seen as previews of a debut LP only until pretty recently. Interpol, DIIV, and a bunch of others released a solid quarter of their debut albums years earlier to get label support for the fully fleshed out project

>>129363688But that’s shoegaze. I don’t want a bunch of hum worship that zoomies seem to love so much. I want more bands that emulate the hazy dreamy shoegaze such as mbv. The current trend is buttgaze and emo with reverb and it’s mostly all slop tier.
>>129363706what you want is out there it's just not posted much because it isn't particularly interesting. Speaking just in the last few years anyway. >>129348332>I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with people saying Julie isn't good in herecan’t think of one thing they do that a literal million other bands on Slumberland Records didn’t do better +30 years ago…. mediocre songwriting, boring ass lyrics and performances, shamelessly 90s “slacker” image and live show… the fuck’s the point? bring some new ideas to the table or trade your guitars in for shovels. stop wasting everyone’s time with this rote, regurgitated bullshit.
>>129362527>Can I get some proper shoegazescroll up, retard
Who the fuck is this person? How did he get all those pictures? Why is he kissing Debbie? Why does the Wipers acc follow him? https://www.instagram.com/chikashiojima23?igsh=MWlzeGVjcXl5eG5hMA==
>>129375518I'd argue they're closer to the Sonic Youth vibe than anything on Slumberland and the Pushing Daisies EP is hook bomb after hook bomb
>>129375570Debbie kissed a friend of mine once she's totally unhinged irl but like in a fun way
>>129377099Julie isn’t fit to lick Sonic Youth’s balls… when they make an EVOL or a SISTER, then they can talk
>>129318933this is so visceral and atmospheric kind of a crazy mix>>129319489amazing, need more like this>>129320257thanks anon listening now

>>129382106i think the kids are sad, for one thing. slowcore, emo/screamo, shoegaze, etc all are very popular scenes, i feel like when i was young it was indietronica and tappy math rock and more energetic stuff, not so depressivemaybe that's the answer too, this is a pendulum response to the optimism of millennial indie stuff (Passion Pit, surfy indie, etc)
>>129319079ador // ation might be one of the best shoegaze songs ever
>>129384244this is true, it's a carbon copy of the hair metal to grunge transition
>215 replies and not one mention of TAGABOW>people would rather sperg out about Julie and talk about some band no one's heard of <2000 monthly listenersAre they chopped? Didn't they just drop an album a couple months ago? What happened?

>>129397120that Tamaryn album is one of the best psych/shoegaze crossovers ever
>>129397176any more psych/shogaze mix? I know Anton Newcombe / TBJM
>>129392858None of them have. Too much work and nobody can agree on what shoegaze even means anymore so no matter what bands you put on there someone will complain

>>129318924So uhh what should be the third album of the Loveless, Slouvaki group since Ride is alt rock garbage after their EPs?
>>129408519Lush - Split
>>129408519the reason Ride is a good third is because it covers a different sound of shoegaze from MBV and Slowdive- the britpop/baggy-influenced side. it's not just the "top 3 shoegaze albums", but 3 that represent the different sounds of the genre
