Why isn't there more polyphony in popular music genres?
too phony
There's a lot of phonies in music today
>>129388322its hard and zoomers are lazy, modern producers are skilled enough to have more polyphony but they are also lazy.almost all popslop producers are ex-rockers or metal guys.
Poly what? Speak American
>>129389358poly = many phony = soundmultiple-sounding
>>129389358>>129388340>>129389320Simple example of Polyphony anyone even retards can understand without being about classical music:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPNgC3gBaq4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPvrPxzEKbwMashups are technically polyphony. 2 songs played together (that fit in knda harmoniously). Why is there no polyphony because like I said its hard to do in a way that it sounds clean, most producers are not creative enough, or worse, rappers...
>>129388322Do you mean counterpoint because virtually all modern music is polyphony?
Name a single modern pop song that isn't polyphonic
>>129389634Not true. Polyphony is 2 songs lines playing at the same time. You are getting confused with melody + accompaniment. Which yeah it can sound similar to a polyphony but thats not what OP means. The Mashup example is perfect, its all the instruemnts of a song + all the instruments of another song and they you make them "fit" together. It is hard to do because essentially you have to make 2 songs that fit together then fuse them. You need to be somewhat of a music theory nerd to pull it off. Or play in the same key and get lucky with what you did.
>>129389663Every pop song ever
>>129389675Thats counterpoint. Monophony hasn't been used since the 1100s. If your bass line doesn't follow the lead melody then that is polyphony
>>129389706That's called homophony. Polyphony is two independent melodies.
>>129389830>polyphony, in music, the simultaneous combination of two or more tones or melodic lines. Thus, even a single interval made up of two simultaneous tones or a chord of three simultaneous tones is rudimentarily polyphonic. Usually, however, polyphony is associated with counterpoint, the combination of distinct melodic lines.
>>129389857so playing 2 instruments that dont play the same line is polyphonic?
>>129389857You literally debunked yourself in your own definition kek>usually polyphony refers to independent musical lines
>>129389935The point is OP was getting polyphony and counterpoint mixed up. Every modern song is polyphonic
>>129389857Bruh:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnRK9FN_-BM
>>129388322jpop idol songs, vocaloid and anisong adjacents do it BUT it does not stop them to be as bland as modern westoid pop tune and whatever white hair old fart felate as true music when is just technicallity and not cohesion.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsS4wY43gFQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLX_mviuV-Y>Any lastest Yoasobi songEven kpop is more polyphony than westoid releases and still sound like a western ripoff...most of the time.
>>129390043They're not. They're homophonic. What is your issue with that term?
>>129390078many people think that because it has more than one instrumental line it means its polyphoic. its just plebs dont understanding exactly what those words mean. I dont blame em I didnt knew at first either.
>>129389354>zoomersNot like it's in boomer music either.
>>129388322it's literally everywhere and you're a retard
>>129388322Are any of these polyphonic?https://youtu.be/watch?v=DHoKt-vgFhghttps://youtu.be/watch?v=2cyrSBvKxGAhttps://youtu.be/watch?v=-Jj4s9I-53g
>>129389320
>>129388322I use it in my songs all the time, but im just a hobbyist
>>129392569Not really, you dishonest, musically-illiterate faggot.
>>129388322man I remember when polyphonic ringtones became a thing felt like quite a revolution that one
This thread just proves that /mu/ is musically illiterate. Polyphony in its most broad sense literally is when there are two pitches being sounded at once. All popular music uses it
>>129394326So Grosse Fuge and some random pop slop are both equally polyphonic? KEK
>>129394326No phony its when different melodies are being played at the same time. What your talking about is just a harmony
>>129396783That could be as simple as having a drum track playing along to your lead melody>>129396373Yes. Its really not that impressive to use polyphony. If you want a good idea what monophony is then listen to Gregorian chants. Modern pop isn't monophony
>>129398968>Modern pop isn't monophonyYes it is.
the synth is polyphonic
Polyphony is when you have complex melodies playing completely different things. 99% of modern pop is not polyphonic, the only thing even close to polyphonic pop music is God Only Knows by the Beach Boys.
>>129398984Youve never played a synth before, they are only capable of producing one sound at a time
>>129388340This
>>129399062Plenty of synths are polyphonic.
>>129399921Not true synths, just digital trash
>>129388322Do you produce polyphonic music?
Here you retards go this is how you distinguish these types https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texture_(music)As seen most music today is Homophony. Being able to point out that it is not monophony does not prove it's polyphony. Even with harmonizing points there is still a clear, singular, leading melody in pop music
>>129392806You retarded, cognitively-retarded retard.
