This thread is for the discussion of music in the Western (European) classical tradition, as well as classical instrument-playing.
>How do I get into classical?
This link has resources including audio courses, textbooks and selections of recordings to help you start to understand and appreciate classical music:

Don't know why this just popped into my head: I wonder if artistic espionage ever happened. Like, "hmm, heard Beethoven/Mendelssohn/Wagner/etc. is writing a new piece, lemme pay their maid or assistant or musician to get me an early copy"

Then again in order to get a copy, you'd have to transcribe it by hand onto another sheet, and I doubt any maid could just do that, so maybe not.

Cmon, you could do better.
Giga-based for Hofmann, Lhevinne and Mengelberg's Bach though.

Sad facts:
Most of the people posting here have never learned to play an instrument
Most of the people posting here cannot read music
Most of the people posting here cannot compose music
Most of the people posting here do not attend classical performances

You know what's even sadder? That some people STILL haven't realized to this day and age which is 2026, that art music as culture has completely and utterly died out after early 20th century. The fact that it did is perhaps even sadder.
All we have left of the art music is factually so little: the scores, writing and few recordings of authentic performances made in early 20th century.

Going through Mendelssohn's piano pieces, probably sticking to the fugues, sonatas, and maybe a few of the songs without words.

One time Mozart pirated music from the vatican by listening to it and then writing it down from memory.

Whenever I search for interesting new piano pieces to listen to somehow Hamelin has always made a recording for it, guy really did make it his mission to hit every niche piano piece possible, and at this rate I'm probably going to listen to his entire catalog purely by continual coincidence.
