Hi, this might sound like a dumb or ridiculous question, but is Marcus Miller a good jazz musician ? I don't know anything about Jazz but my partner is a very big fan of the genre and I wanted to find a concert we could listen to for valentine's day, is this a good pick or do you guys know better concert that I can find online to listen to ? I would really appreciate any help or suggestion.
>>129422007He's good but it's more smooth jazz or funk than jazz or fusion. Don't get his affinity for one-chord jams after he wrote crazy advanced fusion charts in the 80s, but it seems to happen to most of them. He's still considered one of the best bass players alive though, so you're probably in for a treat if that's what you're after.
>>129422007If you want a good jazz bass concert there's that Jaco Pastorius one, who is incidentally Marcus Miller's idol. You can very much hear it in his earlier stuff, including with Miles Davis. He's a real jazz player, but I don't think the music he makes by himself shows that off.
>>129422007His music is more of crossover jazz, he usually adds funk and R&B elements. I'd say it'll depend on who are the sidemen featured in the video.>>129422540Jaco Pastorius was an amazing bass player but other than a couple of albums with Weather Report his contribution to music was absolutely irrelevant. He only became famous because he was the first bass player to act as a protagonist.
>>129422738>..blah blah contribution blah..i really don't give a shit anon i know what he did
>>129422007No Miles Davis hired him because he was a shit jazz musician
>>129422540What do you mean by "that Jaco Pastorius one" ? Are you under the impression Jaco is still alive and performing, or are you talking about recordings?
>>129423924i'll let you figure this one out
He was only good with Luther Vandross
>>129422007no.
>>129422007Is that a Precision neck on a Jazz body? Looks kinda thicc.
>>129422007He's better at funk but yeah i think he's a solid jazzer too
>>129426996>solid
>>129427004>implying
