The structure of music is much more soothing and compelling than the sound itself. Like poetry through logical cypher.. I don't understand why one would want to hear the human voice involved.
>>129430879yeah just shut up, okay, brainlet?
>>129430879The human voice is the only instrument created by God himself. Or Mother Nature, if you're gay.
your autism is preventing you from understanding that other people aren’t autistic
>>129430891I'm not sure why this should have anything to do with my opinion of it. >>129430882sorry. was hoping /mu/ would be full of music theory posts and composition threads so perhaps I'm a bit disappointed. I know it's autistic and lame, but yeah. Timbre, effects, vocals, I wish I could just brush those all off and discuss the bones with people.. Of course, part of the problem being systems of composition dissociated from affect as the goal leads to the failures of serialism and such nonsense.. I'm not sure what to make of it. I wish people were still collectively deluded enough to believe in the self-proclamations of the common practice period and we could excitedly dissect tonal sheet music all day in silence..
>>129430938>I'm not sure why this should have anything to do with my opinion of it.Well, you're talking about structures. That is Logos. God is Logos. And he created an instrument. We're little mini gods who created knockoffs.
>>129430891>>129430946God doesn't exist
>>129430955my goal in life is being on my deathbed and still believing this
>>129430971its blindingly obvious unless you were indoctrinated as a child to believe otherwise
>>129430938>music theory :'(well start with saying something substantial in your post instead of whatever the fuck "poetry through logical cypher" means followed immediately by jumping to whining about people being mean to innocent you.
>>129430946I suppose there is sense to that. Perhaps it is not just the sound of the voice really, but it's superfluous timbres and the semantic distractions of language that obfuscate what I desire to be an alien, sublime encounter rather than another human interaction.. music as a multidimensional system of patterns and combinatorics is just really really interesting.. The feelings being emergent in the way one feels staring at a beautiful mountainside or an elegant scientific result or star system, or I suppose something more archetypal is cool too. The human voice can be quite good for that. I shouldn't be so dismissive of it, but the little personality cults of the body that come out of the worship of the parameters of people's throats just seems off to me. The same could be said of expert insturmentalists as well, but I suppose composers interest me more, and I don't like to imagine them as tradesmen, but like, mathematicians of the soul or something
>>129430882fpbp
>>129430994it's okay, it's not the end if I get yelled at. Honestly wasn't expecting any engagement so now it's a bit awkward. Getting back into doing composition after about 6 months off, thought about checking /mu/ expecting something a little bit more like /ic/ I guess? That's about it.
>>129430994oh and by poetry through logical cypher I meant it in a way in which one can play chess right and one can play chess beautifully, for example. Within a given agreed upon ruleset, making chains of moves that themselves are correct and create an aesthetic narrative within the way the rules themselves are used and when, it's just a really pleasant thing I guess
Morrissey is my instrument
I agree
>>129430879As long as you're referring and ONLY referring to classical and jazz, then okay.
>>129430879Some people have beautiful voices anon. But I agree I'm more of an instrumental music enjoyer the older I get. I can make up any story in my mind instead letting a bad lyricist narrate to me a bad story.
>>129430879There's a word for this kind of attempt in sounding superior to the common human experience by putting on these aspergic airs and acting all logical, it's called "spocking". See pic related, this is what you sound like. As for your little quip, the problem with it is that it condemns all sounds, including instruments, instead of just the "human voice" as you seem to believe, because the structure of a piece of music isn't some backing track you sing over or a neat instrumental track, these are instead just instances of the music. The true "structure" lies in the notes in the page, it's nothing more than notation, which is sufficient, and exists solely, to construct an instance of a piece, whether for a live performance or for a recording. Do you find staring at sheet music more soothing and compelling than listening to it? Would you rather star at floorplans for a cathedral instead of being inside it? Or did you just pick the most pretentious way to say that you prefer instrumental pieces without thinking through your own words? In any case, one day you'll grow up (hopefully) and realize that the voice is just one of many ways of generating sound with dozens and dozens of options for articulation through formants, and that they have their place, like most sounds do, so keep these links savedhttps://youtu.be/ye1dgqDANWghttps://youtu.be/3oaRM1uDsw8

>>129436946>There's a word for this kind of attempt in sounding superior to the common human experience by putting on these aspergic airs and acting all logical, it's called "spocking".it's infuriating how prevalent this behavior is on this site. hell there's a thread on the board right now of some incel seething about how people gather in communities and talk about their shared interests and acting like they're above social interaction. these people aren't human.
>>129437083I can't say it is the case for OP, but what you mentioned often just boils down to Aesop's fox and his grapes. The best position to be, if you must be outside, is above, and so naturally that is the direction people try to convince themselves they are coming from when they find themselves outside looking in.>I don't need this, I don't want this, I am too good for this, damned be the noisy and unwashed masses that revel in thisOf course there's going to be tons of people like this in here since this is more or less labeled as the "outcast forum" of the modern web, and thus they are attracted to it, although this wasn't always the case. Anywhoos, the people who fail to recognize this tendency in themselves always end up acting like they've gone mad
>>129437208yeah it's definitely a coping mechanism of sorts. you spend you entire life with no friends, then you start thinking you're better off without socialization, then you start treating others with contempt for engaging in it. part of it is also the attention economy. they know their opinions are retarded and will be able to bait people with them.
>>129436946>>129437208>>129437556i think OP is trying to lure another annoying faggot to ERP with desu
>>129430879> I don't understand why one would want to hear the human voice involved. You cannot abstract the structure of music away from sound, since the structure of musiccomes from how humans percieve music: major scale happy, minor scale sad, etc...these rules are not a priori, they originate from the psychoacoustics of the human brainHuman preception of frequency and intervals between frequencies was shaped by our evolution so that we could communicate with each other by voice.indeed, the frequency range of most music has a very large overlap with the vocal range of our voice.Human voice is foundational to how humans understand sound. You cannot abstract music away from it.>>129436946While this is very interesting to read, I dont think what OP wrote implies any of this.
>>129437742>major = happy minor = sad is innatewhy is this board like this?
>>129430891Bird chirps, rain, basically most natural "sounds" are no more or less musical than the human voice.
>>129437793Brown/brown-adjacent people
>>129437793Major is inherently more consonant than minor because smaller integers in the frequency ratios mean better alignment of partials. This is far from the only factor in music sounding happy or sad, but all else being equal the major version will sound more consonant and therefore happier.
>>129430879Have you read the book Godel Escher Bach? You'd probably enjoy it.
>>129430879The whole appeal of music is the sound, music is just sonic vibrations. If you're after structure other things like books or math are way stronger for that than music. Music has an inherently obscure quality
>>129430879Music IS sound.
>>129439249is mixolydian the happiest mode?
>>129439844these people never do maths for real they just talk about it
>>129436946>>129439844I thought OP made his point clear enough. Personally, learning to appreciate the structure of music elevated my appreciation of the sound of music, yet there is also music I appreciate solely for the sound and music I appreciate solely for the structure. I don't know why people on this board philosophize about which is more important, I just like being able to get more out of music
>>129441407I think neither you nor OP know any counterpoint
>>129441474why is that?
>>129441642Well do you? Any answer other than "yes" followed by proof in the form of an exercise or something convincing somehow will be treated as an unambiguous "no".
