Last time I saw one of these threads 2 or 3 weeks ago I found some nice albums in it, thanks to the peeps who posted Agonal Lust, Mechthild von Leusch and Hunting lodge, among others. I have been enjoying those

anythings welcome so long as its a bit weird or unconventional, drone, noise, loops, ambient, acoustic, bleeps or w/e. if youre in doubt whether something belongs in the thread, post it anyway

I'll start with Black Seas Of Infinity - Thy Secret Shall Stain the Heart of the Ekstasis (Aleim Edam) from the album Heiros Gamos. these guys started out as a black metal band but quickly morphed into doing more experimental stuff

That pretty much describes it. It wasn’t the only time Bull of Heaven did something similar, they had a habit of releasing both actual music files that were extremely long and a couple of series that generated literally impossibly long, looping pieces but which did have theoretically finite lengths. For an example of the former their album Rituals Of The Elements And Feasts Of The Times is over 100 hours long, you have to dl it in parts and stitch them together, even then it crashed a lot of media players when you tried to open it, then there were many examples like the album ΩΣPx0(2^18×5^18)p*k*k*k and lcm(2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19,23,29,31,37,41,43,47,53,59,61,67,71,73,79)

I don't find "experimental" pretentious, to me it just means trying something different. "Avant-garde" is more pretentious, because it assumes the artist is at the forefront of an artform or predicting its future.

the reason I dont like the term is because music really isnt experimental. the essence of an experiment is its something you do to find out what result you get. an artist having an idea of the music he wants to create, no matter how weird it is, and then crafting something with that intentional end goal in mind is pretty much the exact opposite of an experiment. but I am self aware enough to understand thats just me being autistic and pedantic so I try not to go on about it every time someone uses the word.

then theres Corps-pi, Mon Coeur Saigne Encore Plus and Enregistrement à la Chapelle Sainte Anne which kind of standing apart in the discog, all consisting of twenty+ minute tracks that push the envelope a little more with long, subtle progressions and manic caterwauling, really nice

The Cosmic Dead are a Scottish psych rock band but some of their stuff is very spacey and drawn out such as the album Orbiting Salvation, whence comes this track. most of the rest of their albums are closer to normal psych/space rock but usually tend to have a sludgier sound than many other bands
