>>129450760A VHS series from the early 2000's that showcased gospel church drummers from around the country. It's a particular style of playing that caught fire in a big way in the late 2000's and has now become entirely ubiquitous. Every single modern drummer of today is "inspired" (read- directly cloning) the sound of these drummers. All of the virtuoso drummers propped up by the community come from this cloth. They were all brought up in church. Thomas Pridgen, Eric Moore, Tony Royster Jr., Calvin Rogers, Chris Coleman, etc. ad nauseam all come from the gospel churches and are connected to Gospel Chops which originally, again, was just the name of a video series by a guy meant to showcase these church drummers playing in what are called "sheds." Sheds are when a group of guys get together and trade solos, most often competitively. Now, "gospel chops" has become the name of a style of playing in the drum community, and everyone now sounds exactly the fucking same. This guy II is a product of this subculture, and like all of the other players of today, apes the style but is of course himself a diluted and weak example of the real thing. To put it crudely, gospel chops = drumming like a black dude, which = black church drumming.
