i think people value lossless more for the philosophical thing of having your data be as pristine as possible, maybe the digital equivalent of a master disc for pressing vynil or some shit
besides you can use the lossless version for reencoding to whatever format you're actually going to listen to whether opus or 320 kbps mp3 or whatever and you don't run the risk of losing any information over iterated encodes
i don't truly think anyone who knows any better is storing thousands of flacs in their smartphone to listen on the go
