I just checked some of my favorite user lists I bookmarked 5 years ago and at least half of them are gone because many of these users got banned, same thing happened to forum topics. Many of these lists were very useful (because users used to be knowledgeable and passionate about music unlike drooling retards nowadays) and contained links to various blogs and dedicated pages. I will not use rym's shitty charts (oh and not to mention these retarded pseudogenres appearing nearly every week), I'd rather use discogs or even wikipedia despite the lack of intuitive UI. Fuck rym.
Most websites are going down the drain, I think it's just the nature of the beast these days
>>129480883Mods ban people for leaving negative reviews of albums they like on that site. Dead.
who tf uses wikipedia for music
A lot of the same shit happened to (and still happens on) the Metal Archives. The mods of these places are too deaf, dumb, and numb to notice they're shooting themselves in the foot. I'd say they'll eventually bleed out users, but where the fuck else is there for users to go?Also I have to open charts and album pages in a Brave tab with Tor just to get the right information to load. I don't know if that's an anti-anti-fingerprinting measure or sheer backend retardation, but it makes using the site a bitch refreshing for a not-blocked IP a dozen times just to check some album reviews or information. Has been happening for six months.
>>129480893yup. our internet is over. it's becoming a glorified news agency + phone book
a lot of these sites were built by and mostly inhabited by people with knowledge and actual interest in the topics.you lot are fucking image seeking retards and are too stupid to see you're what's wrong
>>129481241>browse a website for information>YOU DID THISNot OP, but.. what?
>>129481020I discovered a lot of my favorites through it.
>>129481247>too stupid to see you're what's wrong
>>129480883rateyourmusic being a dumpster fire isn't news
My favorite part about RateYourMusic is that the charts don't work anymore. I'm also glad that every single album has a bunch of random adjectives underneath it so you don't actually have to listen to anything. It's great that instead of the comment box being there for extra information, it's just people posting memes and getting into passive-aggressive arguments. I am glad that every single review is either written by someone with room temperature IQ or is a stealth advertisement from the artist's Discord server. Most of all can we thank the mods on RYM for being so based? Having 50% of your website not exist anymore due to breaking arbitrary post-hoc rules is kino!
>>129481551>every single album has a bunch of random adjectives underneath it so you don't actually have to listen to anythingThe descriptors? What's wrong with descriptors?>every single review is ... a stealth advertisement from the artist's Discord serverQRD on this?

>>129481390>>129481650ah shit, the record's skipping
>>129480883>because many of these users got bannedWhat were they banned for? Inb4 question deflection.
>>129481659>What were they banned for?The answer is always "Not being faggoty enough", literally or figuratively. Any stated reason doesn't matter.
>>129481702>Any stated reason doesn't matter. It does though. As individuals we can make an analysis of whether the ban was warranted or not. If you're refusing to share the reason then that's saying something fishy.

>>129481659Giving 0.5 star and a bad review on tpab, listening to too much rock/metal, refusing to support democrat candidates etc... rym mods are ideologically insane.
>>129481878>Giving 0.5 star and a bad review on tpabLiar. Plenty of people on the website have TPAB at an 0.5 and their accounts are fine. >listening to too much rock/metalLiar. A vast majority of the top charts are rock albums of some kind. >refusing to support democrat candidates etcWhere on the website are you seeing political candidates discussed so much that RYM mods would find out and ban an account over it. Point out the specific page.

>>129482074Really? We're still doing the 'I posted a basedjack I win' bullshit? Are we in 2016 again? Just grow up and learn to admit you're wrong.
>>129482099There's nothing to win. I'm just mocking you. I mean read your own fucking post.>there's this exception therefore you're wrong>there's this exception therefore you're wrong>source? source? source? You spin yourself as logical and smart but everything you say is a rationalization for what you already believe. Any time wasted trying to appease you would get the goalpost moved and more excuses made. It's a waste to talk to you, and I'm not even the guy you were replying to.The only thing worth doing is to point and laugh.
>>129482166>there's this exceptionYou were saying that's one of the biggest reasons peoeple were banned and if there's tons of people showing that's not true then it's not an exception. If 9/10 people do something and only one of them gets banned then the 9 isn't the 'exception' and clearly that's not the reason they were banned. Same with the charts. A vast majority of them are rock albums. That's not 'exceptions'. That's a bulk of it. Do you not know what the word 'exception' means? >source?Yes how dare someone ask for proof instead of blindly believing an angry OP on 4chan. Do you realize how screwed I'd be if I just blindly believed every poster on here? I'd be flip flopping opinions constantly and that'd just be pathetic. >inb4 another soijack
Can we not turn this thread into a fucking slapfight
>>129482208Here is your reply. Savor it, this will be your last one.
>>129482216>I have no proof so I'm gonna pretend I 'won' anyway Hey, works for me.

Your fault for not archiving everything. Nothing lasts on the modern corporate internet
Yeah, fuck that cesspool but also fuck you for ever using it in the first place. Grow up, bitch.
>>129480883build a good competitor or clone. aoty is also starting to take off.
>>129482399There is Sputnikmusic but it never had as many users
>>129482412yeah i guess getting a solid user base would be the bigger immediate struggle, there are what 5-10 actual people that post here?
>>129482399Aoty is a decent minimalist alternative to rym but has no real sense of community and is only good if you are exclusively interested in hearing new releasesSputnik's UI is comfy and everyone there is super nice but it's literally stuck in the past, the website's own copyright hasn't been updated in 4 yearsDiscogs isn't gaining new users and for the purpose of anything beyond logging physical albums it's just not worth the effortFor a bit Allmusic was my go-to but I can't imagine that site staying up much longer since they beg for money on the front pageAnyways none of this matters if you're remotely intelligent because you can just use musicbrainz (which is still admittedly clunky as fuck)
>>129482470i only ever used musicbrainz through the api for their database, what are you actually supposed to do on there except get album information?
rate your music has a bad reputation for a reason. i honestly wouldn't care if that site burned down to the ground, its what they deserve for fostering a community of oppressive psychotic ban happy partisan hacks.
