You faggots told me that this album sucks, but The Unnamed Feeling is the best song Metallica has ever written.

drums go boink boink boink uhuhuh

>The song is about an unnamed feeling (which, according to James Hetfield, is anxiety)
Hmm...

No one even tries to pretend that this isn't good anymore, let alone pretend that it sucks

There are a few good tracks if you can get past the atrocious snare and guitar tones. I like Sweet Amber.

Have they ever played them live in standard tuning? I bet most of the songs would sound a lot better.
>>
>>129483684
they did the whole album in-studio for the CD release and it sounds way better

They also did a show playing Lulu with Lou Reed and it surprisingly sounded like an actual album instead of a joke.

Just another example of Metallica sabotaging themselves in the studio despite being capable musicians.
>>
>better than Reload
>better than Risk
>better than Diabolus in Musica
Not a great album but compares very favorably to the other experimental non thrash albums by legacy 80s thrash bands.

I don't understand them sometimes.
Take this album run:
>Master
One of the best sounding 80s metal records production-wise
>Justice
No bass, terrible EQ on the the drums but at least the vocals and guitar tone are great
>Black Album
Probably the most polished metal record up until that time
And also this 4 album run:
>Reload
Uber polished
>St. Anger
Crappy drums mixed way too high taking over the entire song
>Death Magnetic
Mixed so hot you can hear the drums clip whenever Lard plays a fill
>Lulu
Sounds like two different artists, with different producers and engineers competing on each song.
What a weird band they are sometimes. That's one of the reasons I still follow them though. Fascinating history.

>Death Magnetic
I remember there was a Rock Band version (not sure if it was a game rip or DLC) that wasn't brickwalled and sounded a lot better. Apparently brickwalling it after they properly mixed it was Rick Rubin's only contribution.

Yeah the Rock Band version is a thing. You can find it easily on Youtube. The Rock Band guys got all the stems separately so they could take out each instrument and the in game mix sounds a lot better. Alternative mixes also exist for St. Anger and Justice. I'm not aware of any alternative mixes for Lulu though. Or S&M which also sounds very shitty. Mostly James' vocals which were autotuned to Cher levels.

Getting tired of saying it by now: every 'tallica alb is great for different reasons. That's why they're the greatest metal band.
>>
>>129483583
just because it's the best song they have ever written, doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
>>
The best post-80s Metallica album, or at least the most interesting to behold. This one doesn't put me to sleep, plus Frantic's a genuinely good opener.

Lulu and St. Anger are masterpieces. Death Magnetic, Hardwired, etc, are worthless fanservice

Death Magnetic and disc 1 of Hardwired are alright.

Were those guys who made those mixes also given the original stems?
>>
>>129488225
The St. Anger one is just the rehearsal tape that was released alongside the album. The snare is less prominent and James' singing is more polished.
I'm not sure how the Justice remixes were made. Google claims the tracks from Guitar Hero were used along with digital tools to isolate the barely audible bass track from the final mix.
>>
>>129487239
Death Magnetic and Hardwired are alright.
72 Seasons felt kinda stale although Inamorata is one of their best post 1980s songs. Great track.
>>
>>129489181
The way Guitar Hero works is they store all the individual instruments on separate tracks. That was why some songs had to be rerecorded since the original stems were lost. But basically fans just took those for the Death Magnetic songs and made better mixes.

These days you can split stems for any random mp3 with mostly good results using AI-based tools (it's a different tech from LLMs). I think this is how a lot of people on youtube are doing remasters now and is how they get isolated drum or guitar tracks, etc.
