Chic - Good Times, morning funk practice if you want to practice along. Set metronome to 60-70 bpm if you aren't familiar with the song. I believe there is another open A string in the recording in the 4th measure, beat 2 and that's the way I played it but do what you feel. E harmonic minor scale.

I downloaded this guy's course about the fretboard and scales and the CAGED system. It fucking sucks. Not only does it seem hastily made and unprofessional, he's also not really explaining things properly. Since I'm already familiar with the majority of things (doing this to systematically build my way up), I can imagine how bad this is for someone completely new to these topics.

On a related note, I hate that whenever I learn something, I have to learn it in 3 different languages. Obviously the best language to find resources in is English, but I also don't want to neglect the other languages I know, in case I someday want to discuss it with people only speaking those languages.

I also hate the German note names, which my country also adopted. Having an H note, but also a B note has already caused me time and mental strain. I was trying to construct the Gb major scale and the Cb instead of H didn't make much sense.

tl;dr: don't get, not even pirate, Leonardo Pompei's Guitar Fretboard Mastery, Scales and Harmony course.

I found a killer deal on a Trad II Jaguar in LP blue but it has a basswood body. Between that and lack of rack space I had to skip it. I love that color and it had a bound neck, but I already have a FSR Trad II, the fiesta red Jag in picrel and it has an alder body. Basswood on a Mustang is fine, but it throws off the balance on Jags/JMs and they feel too light. I’m thinking I’ll modify the turquoise Vintera Jag instead, with a hotrail in the neck or maybe even route it out for double humbuckers.

I was also referring to the height of your strings which nothing to do with tension but with the height you set up on the small screws in your bridge. Your strings are in the fucking stratosphere, pic related is the action on my pbass.

you got two grand to spend on some darkglass meme amp, spend 50 bucks on a luthier to set up your instrument properly, it will impact your tone and playing more than any piece of gear could.

nobody wants to hear your strings clank against the fretboard, develop a lighter touch and let the amp do the work. Also, your strings are still waaay too high even if your aim is to punch them like the guy from Rage against the machine.
It's particularly visible here >>129463036 how high your action is, you're having to press so damn hard to get a sound out of that thing I can't even imagine.

also you can play hard without having the string buzz around on the fretboard with low action, it's called control and proper technique.
Someone like Sam Wilkes or the dude from Vulfpeck are great examples of this, they play very aggressively and don't have high action like you, yet they don't clank around https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjskYg_5XF0 . If you experience buzzing when you lower the action then you REALLY need to take that thing to a luthier because your frets or your truss rod need some work.

>>129495012
>honestly dont really understand what you're saying
your strings are very very high, which means that you need to press down pretty hard to get a tone out of them. This slows down your playing, ruins your tone because the strain makes you have less control in your fingers and makes muting harder because you're more likely to touch the other strings since they're much more frequently in the way due to their height.

Look at the picture you took, it seems like it's like half an inch high around the bridge and like 5mm+ on the fretboard, you have to press all of this distance down with your fingers, which is at least twice the effort it should normally take (around 2mm or even lower if possible is normally ideal). A luthier can adress this if you don't feel confident fixing it yourself, which would not be very hard. But you should absolutely fix this because I can guarantee you that this is impacting your playing negatively. This is beyond any comfortable high string height.

Get one with a rhythm circuit. Better to have and not use than later want and not have. If it’s a guitar you end up loving, you could wire that rhythm switch to do something else even. My Jazzmasters and Jags are my favorite guitars, and I use the rhythm circuits regularly for heavier stuff as well as clean, fat lead playing.
>>
>>129495130
I noticed because it's like 3 times as high as on my P >>129494677.
You're gonna see how much nicer it feels to barely have to press down on a fret and still get a full tone out of it. Your hands will fell as if they're pressing down on rubber bands.
>>
>>129495130
afaik pro coverage is only for warranty stuff like damages or manufacturer flaws.
it shouldn't cover a setup, but regardless I would much rather entrust it to a proper luthier than to some highschooler doing his shift at GC, they're generally not in the same league unless they have a designated repair shop or luthier in store.

Don’t get a Standard as those are just Squiers with a Fender logo, and I wouldn’t get a Player 2 since it lacks the rhythm circuit. Vintera is the cheapest I’d go, but ideally a MIJ or AVRI. Take that bit of extra time to save up, buy once/cry once. You won’t regret it.
>>
>>129495280
>yeah it kinda hurts my fingers
it should not hurt, this is very common for beginners because they normally start on cheap instruments which have horrible setups so they learn to play with strained fingers as if they were trying to squeeze an orange.
you gotta adress your technique before anything else if you have gotten used to play this hard or it will still feel similar even with lowered strings, press down as light as you can until you have a tone and then stop applying pressure, try to keep this pressure for any of your scale practises or songs you play until it becomes normal and then it will never hurt again. You can see how little the pros like Thundercat move their fretting fingers because they are playing with the lowest possible tension and full relaxation.
Look how chill this dude is fretting his strings and how low they are https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_144PfzHfo

I’m not going to say you’re objectively wrong but I don’t think string height is as problematic as it is for guitar especially if you’ve ever played double bass. you have to consider that his guitar is turned slightly and it’s going to look higher than it really is
>>
>>129495545
double bass is fretless and has string buzz by default, the technique and approach are completely different to electric. The picture I took of my bass is at almost the same angle and at least 1/3 the height of his. Mine is 2mm so his it at least half a centimer which is utterly unacceptable for electric.

Also I can't stand gen z. Most people my age have already been playing for 20 years so they've been ground to a pulp already
>>
>>129496068
are you related to the schizo who posts daily clips with his tiny Orange amp?
>>
>>129496136
no I’ve posted two vocas in the last 2 years that was one of them
>>
>>129496114
Using studio monitors with built in subs at 100 can barely hear it me talking is louder.
>>
I really only have inside out by duster to practice for chords right now. All the other bands I like have really complicated songs. I can't even do the duster song that well. Anyone possibly have a good video with an exercise for moving chord shapes? Still currently looking through my library to find other songs though.
>>
>>129496158
I only post on my phone. if I pull up a daw it’s not going to be for /gg/. it was perfectly audible on my headphones at half volume

I appreciate your enthusiasm and what seem to be principles but I’ve been on /gg/ long enough to know it’s not worth it in the end. keep it up tho if that’s what makes you happy I won’t get in your way

it's really not that much, it's like 5 dirt pedals and a big switching unit in the middle for presets.
Multi-FX on the left and that single delay on the right, possibly in its own loop.
It's way too big for how little it actually provides imo. Tosin Abasi has like four times as many things spread over the same pedal board.

All the time. Now people can afford to be picky about models, features, finishes and condition but back in the day guys would find a totally beat to shit Strat in the most ugly finish imaginable in the newspaper classified adds and buy it because it’s the only Fender they could afford and then proceed to write hit records on it. I’m grateful to be able to narrow down and search for whatever I exactly want but I also love the simplicity of “I want a Gibson so I bought this beat to shit SG from a dude at the library because it’s the only Gibson I can find without making a pilgrimage to the city”
>>
>>129500302
some of the most worshiped albums in rock history had less gear, made do with what they could get. I said in another thread that youtube is crawling with con-men selling you the idea of theory, most worshiped guitarists back then learnt by ear.
>>
>>129500302
If you look at it like that, there was never a better time to be a guitar player. Then again, guitar hasn't been cool or sexy for a long time, and it's not nearly as relevant as it used to be either.
>>
>>129500404
>less gear, made do
Exactly my point. The boomer meme of trying dozens of guitars before you find the right one was partly because the quality sucked.

if you’re talking about picking speed when I played bluegrass I did the 3 speed method. one is super slow like 50% of your current speed to focus on how the picking and fretting feels. I would normally close my eyes the whole time I played. speed 2 is your normal playing speed where you only make a couple of mistakes, this is where you rehearse and identify and iron out why you’re making mistake and which parts of the piece you’re struggling with. speed 3 is typically 10-20% above speed 2. you should basically be falling apart for half the song, only being able to hit your best passages. it should sound bad but should feel attainable. pick the same song, 15 mins for each if you’re really just trying to build speed. all to a metronome obviously
