I have a question. Why do luthiers get so mad when I ask for high action setup? Like, what's the matter in having high action? Like, not all players like low action, you know? Not all players want to play soft and fast. There are players who want the notes to have air to vibrate and shit. I mean, this guy would not setup my gutar because I said I prefer high action. Alright. It's not like I wanted my action at a point where it becomes impossible to play. I just want the strings to vibrate without buzzing. Why is this so taboo? I'm serious. Most luthiers get mad when you ask for high action or you complain that the action is low. They start to create excuses and shit. it's curious.
>>
>>129504341
my butt is fartin'
>>
>>129504367
if you have high action its not set up right. medium action or low action is a preference, high action is a mistake

See what I'm talking about? The guy never even played my guitar and he is already saying it is wrong based on some random subject reason. lol This is exactly my point and thanks for signaling my point here.

>>129504392

>>
>>129504395
If I want to play funk then I have the guitar which the properly setup for that. But I'm not talking about funk. I'm talking about my main instrument. The one which I use for most things. Low action makes the string buzz and I have noticed it also makes the note less good because there are less room for the string to vibrate, plus you can put too much energy into the pick or finger because you will distort the natural sound of the note, it will buzz. To me that is not acceptable. I know most players find that acceptable and this is why I think luthiers don't like when I ask for high action. They are used in setting guitars for low actions. They create excuses. I'm the fucking artist. I know what I want. It's like when the doctor said Tony Iommi would never play again. Did he acceted that/ Nope, he created his own aritificial finger rips and created fuckign Heavy Metal. If you allow a fucking nobody to say what you can or can't do then you will never taste success. Fuck you.

I have this fascination and admiration for the instrument itself, but I can't seem to dedicate myself to learning how to play better.

Thinkin' about trying to learn some songs... Marty Music has been recommended to me. Perhaps I'll try some Zeppelin.

Practice at least 2 hours most days of the week.

Only been playing for a little bit more than a year so I still have a long way to go but I could become intermediate in the next few months
>>
I’m good enough that I can play any guitar and sound great without bitching about action, string gauge, or neck profile
>>
>>129504623
How do you navigate a two hour practice session?
>>
even 30 minutes a day should be enough, it's about building a habit. soon enough hours passed and you can barely feel it.
I don't think I ever trained that many hours in just a single day but then again I already trained playing guitar since 15 years ago.
>>
>>129504695
Probably not great. Kek

Ideally I start off with some exercises for finger mobility and warmup with some scales, particularly the A minor pentatonic, and some chromatic scales.

Then I just practice some songs that I've been learning, with those same songs mostly having things that I need to learn, like barre chords, arpeggios, etc. Then I play along to songs that I'm skilled enough to really play. Sometimes I just skip the warmup altogether which is a bad habit though.

So really I could probably use a much better practice routine but I do feel like I have been improving anyway.
>>
>>129504741
at some point you should just put some background track in some key (lots of em in youtube) and try improvising from there. you'll slowly build the instinct of which note to play next to be able to control your own pace.
>>
>>129504766
Yeah, I was just thinking recently that improvisation and ear training are two areas that I'm really lacking in so I have to start focusing on those some more. I haven't really done much of either so far

>>
>>129504741
What are some warmup routines that I should take up?

>>129504766
I've got a Boss Looper so I have just been playing little melodies in a scale over top of some looped chords, and I feel like I need to improve on sideways string to string interactions more than up and down one string...

I'm thinking about writing out some sticky notes with some practice specifics to place on the wall (like some sort of homicide investigation) but I don't really know where to start. Guitar isn't new to me but I definitely haven't done enough practice... I was stuck in a whirlpool of trying to find the 'best' 'instrument' 'for me' with 'all the bells and whistles' and in the end I am now using a Squier Tele and a Fender Frontman 10G. I gotta say, it just feels good to have the option to play after so long without. I was getting stir crazy.
>>
>>129504837
Keep it, two cabs is the way
>>
>>129504843
If you're going to play over chords with a looper pedal I recommend something that requires you to modulate with your melody. It's not comfy at first but that's the point, when you're comfy you noodle.

You're arguing semantics. Yes like I said it’s Mike’s guitar and Tom played it. It wasn’t just for the cover of the record, it was played by both of them until Tom got his 330/360. Prior to Mike getting it they’d just play octaves with each other to get that 12 string sound, and then that guitar was the only electric 12 string they used for a while. Tom continued to play Fireglo 660s when he got his signature model.

I don't think I'll ever be a good guitar player as far as playing in a good band. I started way too late to be constantly mindful of where the tonics are in every scale in every major tuning, and how solos should resolve every 4 bars to the tonic and then you can go subdominant or dominant to the key you're in to spice things up and it's completely dizzying. I'll just stick to open and barre chords and fingerpicking in various tunings and whatnot. Lead / soloing is not for me. Manuel Gottsching and Kawabata Makoto are kings.

I get that. They definitely have an odd look to them. I think after Leo left Fender, they told him he wasn’t allowed to use a headstock that looked anything like Fender’s, hence the weird design. As for the bridge, Leo designed it as an improvement to his old bridge design. He could have kept the old one, but he made the new dual fulcrum bridge so that the guitar would stay in tune better with heavy use. I have to say, it really does stay in tune better, but it’s chunky look definitely is unique.

Overall, I love the way the guitar plays and sounds. I have played my buddy’s custom shop Fender Strat, and can honestly say that it plays and sounds just as good as his. But I definitely understand why someone wouldn’t want one for the look of it.

Let's step outside and see if you're as tough as you think.
>>
>>129508950
I switched from fingers to pick near the end of last year. Picking is more fun
>>
>>129510529
picking is great for beginners
>>
>>129510267
>>129510284
Thanks for the advice. I really can't play guitars though, so I'd probably just embarrass myself if I try to play one. So I'm just thinking to buy one online based on reviews, or buy a used one from fb market place and ask the seller to play it for me to test it lol.
>>
>>129510588
you don't need to play guitar to verify it's set up properly. you can even ask someone working at the store to verify it's set up properly, and if it's not they will do it for you. Do NOT buy a guitar online as a beginner. You should only buy guitars online if you are going to set them up once they arrive, or plan to take them to a store to get set up, in which case the online order was unnecessary.
>>
>>129510479
You shouldn't need to stretch your fingers to play scales. If you learn your scale positions properly you are moving between positions so you don't need to stretch out of a 4 fret spread, one for each finger.
>>
Are there any guitar courses that are actually worth watching if you want to improve? One of the reasons why I can't dedicate some proper time to practice is because I don't know what to practice and all the stuff on yt seems like a bunch of ads to sell shit. And all those cringy, obnoxious thumbnails really put me off.
>>
>>129510944
you need to set clearly defined goals first. “I want to do everything really well” is not a SMART goal.
>>
>>129510944
I'm in a similar place, right now I'm just doing spider-walking exercises and knowing the fretboard so I'm fluent on it
>>
>>129510944
No. You need an actual teacher. Online courses are created to be palatable to a wide audience and collect money from beginners. They are not geared towards actually being effective in improving your abilities as a guitar player. Teaching is a skill, it requires knowing the needs of the student and adapting your lesson plan accordingly. Online courses weren't made for you, it's cope for people who can't or don't want to take lessons.

>>
>>129510956
Stuff like "I wanna get better at alternate picking?" That still doesn't really tell me how to get there.

>>129510973
Every time I try the spider I just end up noodling. Ah. I should definitely work on knowing the fretboard though.

>>129511012
Yeah that's what I'm thinking is the best too. Thing is, finding a good teacher is hard. I really need to ask around and look online, see if there's something in my area that isn't geared to complete beginners or requires a yearly subscription.

>>129511153
Oh I'm gonna look into that, thanks. Looks like a good way to learn guitar in the more theory sense.
>>
>>129511351
>finding a good teacher is hard
Find someone who has gone to school for music or teaching. Don't take lessons from some random guitar player who is offering lessons. The ability to play does not imply the ability to teach, or even that they know what the fuck they are doing.
>>
>>129510217

here you go bud. i wasted $30 on this from a professional bluegrass player. downpick on the beat, up-pick on the offbeat. there you go now youve received a full course on alternate picking. the other guy is right most of these courses and teachers are a joke. i also paid for that dudes cracking the code picking course too btw. the secret is to just keep playing im not even joking. ive spent more on courses and books than 98% of people have spent on gear in this general, if you have a clearly defined goal more than just learning to pick i can point you in a better direction but picking is going to be covered in all these courses unless youre going to play classical
>>
>>129510615
It's just wrist pain in general. I'm not stretching far or hard but after like 20ish minutes of playing I'll need to shake my wrist or pull my fingers out
>>
>>129511591
you’re squeezing too hard. either bad setup, guitar strings are too heavy gauge, or aggravating a preexisting injury
>>
Anyone have any experience playing a guitar in stereo through two amps? I’m thinking about a wet/dry stereo setup with one clean and one with my board.
>>
>>129511658
the old rick basses were built with dual output jacks and i know srv plugged stereo later in his career. maybe you can use that information to drum up some information online if you dont get any help here

>>
>>129512135
scientifically speaking have you every adjusted your pickups it makes more difference than literally else you can do to your guitar. even a slight change makes a dramatic difference in volume for each string
>>129511927
i care a lot more about how the strat sounds than how the SG sounds, the SG is really just for contrast. not as picky with it, humbuckers are so far away from the sound I'm going for I don't even know where to start

excuse my grammar retardation makes me see red and type too fast
>>
>>129512220
If you're headbanging they are.
>>
>>129512230
we’re talking about balancing both side of the pickup to match the string angle not raising or lowering the entire pickup. the magnetic field runs in a somewhat cylindrical shape along the length of the humbucker pickup. what you’re talking about is like rotating a circle on its center point
>>
>>129512220
I tried to tell him he will cook the circuits by running it on its end but he won't listen.
>>
>>129512249
all raising and lowering the pickup in its entirety is going to do is affect your total volume. when you adjust one side or the other, or the individual pole pieces, you are affecting the individual string volume and dramatically changing the EQ of your sound

Tubes are boomer superstition. Nothing big brain about using tech that's been obsolete for 60+ years

>>129512755
Nothing wrong with solid state at all. They do sound different, a little bit, if that's better or worse is taste. Most guitar players are at least somewhat interested in the technology though, and tubes are an iconic part of music technology.
>>
I've emailed my feedback about a broken guitar that I bought from a company. Is that a weird thing to do?
>>
>>129512781
It will get spam filtered by their IT admin anyway.
>>
>>129512762
Right, because mics don't go into amplifiers that clip. The point of tubes is how they clip. If you aren't clipping your tubes they are doing literally nothing to your sound. If you are clipping your tubes, what comes after in your signal chain doesn't matter, the clipping has already happened and been captured.
>>
Tube breakup is well documented in and out of the guitar amp world. Read up on tube saturation, asymmetrical clipping, and even order harmonics.

They also are highly inefficient and waste a ton of power if you are some treehugging faggot who cares about that. It's like using an old incandescent bulb instead of an LED to light your house.

Why do you need 100 amps. The guy that buys an amp modeller is the same guy who buys 12 guitars because he's not a musician he's a larper. Buy one amp that you like, solid state or tube. Unless your goal is to make "Recreating X Guitarist's Tone" videos for youtube.

You're just letting everyone know your ear is bad and less powerful than your bias. Like I said earlier, if your tubes aren't clipping, they are doing literally nothing to your signal. That's really a shame. Might as well get some proper pups then and put some cool looking covers on them.

>>129514195
Damn bro my bad. Wish you and fender good luck.

>>129514215
That's a body shape, it's a different story. Good to see something different though, but that lower horn looks weird when matched with the upper one. I'll say though, besides the strats and teles, I think meteora is my third fave from fender.

We got matchin ones too my guy

>>129514292
cool design? Like the Stratocaster? Fender Japan doesn't design shit, they make cheap copies of Fender designs
>>
damn every strat copy just got btfo
>>
>>129514421
No you don't understand. A cool design is a stupid paint job. This isn't rocket science.

i find the success of the meteora absolutely baffling
i love bizarre guitars but the design of the meteora is so insanely lazy and bad I cant believe it got made....and then somehow it's a successful new shape
the contours are so hamfisted and then the strat headstock looks so insanely out of place
ffs
>>
>>129514421
>cheap copies
they were chosen because they're craftsmanship was on par with fenders back in the day. im not one to place anything above MIA but MIJ is no cheap slouch.

I just wish they'd bring back the cyclone

lmao pick one. nobody wants that shit or bought that shit
>>
>>129514521
Yeah it looks unwieldy and I dont see the point of it over an HH Jazzmaster which they've done several times now. But it's on it's 3rd or 4th version so someone out there must be buying it.

I buy shit, I really buy that shit from strangers online

I like the Maverick
IIRC Fender couldn't sell enough XIIs so they made the Maverick using over stock by bandsawing chunks off trying to make a new model instead of throwing out a bunch of bodies and necks
>>
>>129514568
I thought they sold pretty well just discontinued?

does anyone remember the Marshall Class 5 amp?
those things sounded amazing, they were always out of stock because they'd get bought up instantly...and then Marshall discontinued them?
that was one of the weirdest things in guitar
>>
>>129514639
i think ESP made a copy of the 2nd one in the 80s with a floyd
