Gosh, has it really been over twenty years? Jesus, I'm old.
She was at first amused then later annoyed by this guy, Darren Finizio, who fronted about thirty-seven bands in Philadelphia and none of them good. I booked the Dolls to headline and one of his acts to open (also a local Philly drag punk act) at a bar called The Khyber just as their eponymous album was released.
I would later talk with Can Sertoglu who worked with World/Inferno about Amanda and Brian. I have no proof, but I like to think that our conversation is how Dresden Dolls were booked to play Hallowmas 2004 at the Polish National Home in Greenpoint.

I used to listen to the Dresden Dolls a bit, I'm from a working class background and mostly listen to metal. All of my friends thought I was a faggot for listening to that. In later years I learned more about her as a person and found her to be totally insufferable. And her recent music sucks also. Like, she is someone who really believes that everyone should care what she has to say just because she says it. I grew to hate her in the end.

I went through a huge phase of this in high school thanks to Voltaire being in Billy and Mandy. What hit me the hardest was the first time I heard a track from Red-Eyed Soul by World/Inferno.
I don't really listen to it anymore, but I still like Voltaire, and I could probably stomach Dresden Dolls. I really appreciate how that period contributed to my taste overall, and I don't think I'd listen to a lot of the folk and americana stuff I do now, which is kind of funny to think about.

His "fun" stuff like Boo Hoo and Ooky Spooky are definitely "fun", but I think his more serious or earnest songs are legitimately good. Those two are great, and I really like stuff like I'm Sorry or Feathery Wings.
