>>129572500Their great work is nightmarish metal/art rock. Their dreck is very forgettable. From Opiate: Jerk Off, Cold and Ugly, Sweat. Three of their best and quality work by any measure. But consider a normal person trying to process all that. It's loud, grungy, banging and horror core lyrics. All while driving some of the hardest grooves ever discovered. Undertow, their second album felt like a downgrade. I only liked Sober at first. The album grows on you and has a few more gems in it but none that really shine. Then we get to Aeinma. Their real triumph. That one is packed wall to wall with great work. It's hard to think of a bad moment on it. But as all good things must come to an end Tool grows up for Lateralus. And turns the album into one long song. Tool isn't Tool anymore. It's some emo pop grunge where'd Tool go weirdness. Not nuanced enough. I stopped listening after that one. If Tool is even still going, I really don't know I haven't thought about them in years, they need to surprise the audience again. Showcase multiple styles on one album. Take use somewhere strange, hostile and forbidden. Bring the machismo back. Tool was a scary act. When they went soft they weren't Tool anymore. Their call. They seem to have a ton of talent they are holding back on. This is a band that can actually play their instruments. If they are done with hard, that's their business but I would expect to see them show off more technical skill in future bands/performances.
