What else in the world of music sounds like Rik Schaffer's work here?
I've listened to industrial, trip-hop and downtempo, but I've never really listened to anything that sounds like the Hollywood main theme, World Spirit Map or the Chinatown theme

Reminds me of Theme of Laura. I’ve been looking since forever for something similar, but never had any luck. All trip hop bands are super gay unfortunately.

Some of Velvet Acid Christ's stuff and the Silent Hill OST would be good places to start. Also Portishead

Some Alan Wilder solo stuff give me that vibe a bit, the lyrics can be a bit cringe at times tho

james plotkin with his joy of disease album is so close to this sound you'd think rik used it as a primary source of reference:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeXf9KzZui0
also curse of the golden vampire's debut is pretty damn close in some tracks:

aye, i was in the same boat a year= ago after replaying vtmb for the millionth time and this time getting completely consumed by the soundtrack. funny thing is i loved curse of the golden vampire's second album and never bothered to check the debut until that time.
another one that is kinda close but maybe too industrial at times is scorn and only this particular album:

Idk either but as general vibe, V:TM me think of some industrial and darkwave-adjacent groups like Collide and Delerium (Bill Leeb from Front Line Assembly), stuff like that. Basically artists working with the same vibe at the same time.

https://youtu.be/5eSAGwd0vfY

Funny thing is that Rik Schaffer played lead guitar in an industrial rock band:

Oh I've got one, check out Headless Nameless. It's a side project for the industrial group Encephalon (one of my favorites really). Doesn't have the trip-hop influences but feels kind of similar to this dark downtempo goth rock, but idk
https://youtu.be/ctcG8r3VQ6k

Michael Arthur Holloway also came to mind for some reason. It's like a dark noir jazz side project by another industrial guy. Reminds me of the setting anyways
