>>129639004I haven't really listened as i should wasn't feeling it at first, will i end up liking it?
Doing better than Cracker Island isn't a tall order. So I'll say The Mountain is better than Song Machine. The Mountain is a fully realized concept by comparison
>>129639321it's dog shit
>>129641589I think it's as good. The Mountain is anchored by a stronger concept but Song Machine is a more consistently fun listen.
>>129639004I have had that Manifesto song in my head awhile I think it grows on you and its actually a classic song. Now I do think the rapping actually kills the song. Why do I need English rapping when there is enough rapping? However it works as a bridge I guess because its like three songs in one. Both beats are insanely catchy. That dumb horn sound gets stuck in my head, that beat drop sounds thicc and the second beat is really good too.I do think this album is straight up 9-10/10 on the version that removes all rapping. The 7/10 is probably correct on the studio version but there are very very high highs.
>>129642927Manifesto's a top 3 song for me, I love the disjointed phase shifting. It's the simple, saccharine stuff like Orange County, Plastic Guru and Casablanca that gets the closest to losing me.
I'll have to listen a few more times, but I'm not really feeling it. If anything, I think Damon's vocals are holding this album back. He just doesn't sound like he gives a shit. And yeah, I get that's how "2D" sings, but usually the energy of the production and featured artists will add to that. The features being so disjointed from one another and the lower-key ambient direction of the album just makes it sound like Damon's recording from a rocking chair.I don't know. Maybe it'll grow on me, but I feel like I've already given this album more chances than I ever felt like I had to before.
I want to have sex with Noodle.
>>129643046I love Orange County but yeah Plastic Guru and Casablanca are the only skips for me, they feel more in line with their most forgettable post-Plastic Beach stuff.
Listened to it a few hours ago on vinyl, it's alright.
Considering they haven't released a single listenable album past their first 3, is it safe to say Gorillaz was a fluke? It's been nearly 20 years.
What's everyone's problem with Cracker Island, anyway? It had some stinkers on it, but I liked it overall.
>>129639267>You could google "royalty free indian ambience"...and get nothing but pictures of rancid piles of shit. So more like 100% of this album.
>>129646382every single song but the title track was just more bland boring nothing nu-gorillaz and it hurt even more because the title track was so good
I thought it was a good album but then I relistened to Empire Ants and realize what they used to be capable of and realized it sucks
>>129646382I relistened to it the other day for the first time since it was new and it was like watching The Now Now contort itself into an uncomfortable smile. I get that there's a bit of a "muh screens" theme going on and the music/lyrics have this utopian/dystopian contrast, but the way it's coming together here isn't working. It feels like a skinwalker of a Gorillaz album, sounds like the real thing but something's imperceptibly off.
>>129639004I only disliked the ethnic stuff in Damascus. It's a blue ball moment. The intro is so beautiful and it teases you for a full minute, it feels like it's building up to a poignant, melancholic tune ala empire ants or melancholy hill, but then it immediately hits you with fast, upbeat middle eastern gibberish.
>>129639004Jamie most definitely went to Diddy freakoffs and Epstein Island, don't tell me he didn't abstain from those vices
