rock music died because it stopped being cool, rock star life used to be aspiration but around the 90s everyone hated being a rockstar and if you were a rockstar you were seen as tryhard and rockers were just seen as depressed self-hating druggies, so in the absence of that rock and roll lifestyle, people gravitated to pop and rap cause those people actually lived the rock and roll lifestyle and were aspirational and cool
