Paul's Boutique is 100% a classic album for hip hop. It really showed that the sky is the limit when it comes to sampling for beats, and paved the way for guys like Dilla, DOOM, Madlib, El-P, etc... to sample all sorts of crazy shit in their own musicThat aside, I fuckin hate this album. I can't stand their rap routines, their voices, their white boy/frat douche schtick. I know they toned it down for this album compared to License to Ill but man I can't sit through it. Again, classic album? Yes.
Led Zeppelin IV because Plant's performances feel kind of forced and tryhard. I always thought LZII was their best one and comes across as a lot more natural.
Its very much of its time and hasnt aged that well, arguably even worse than ill. Id say its top 5 Beastie, but not close to the top.One of the good examples of influential doesn mean good.
>>129660234I think PB aged well for me, it took a decade of in and out rotation before I truly appreciated it. Hello Nasty is the true underdog and debatable best BB album.
sounds like op had a run in with the egg man
One time a friend made me listen to Radiohead's complete discography and it was all shit besides Creep
>>129660177paul's botique is great. i was there when it came out. blacks SEETHED that a buncha jewish kids out-rapped them
When the Pawn. I got memed into listening to it. Not one track was memorable.
>>129664691Most 80s HH was very rudimentary, just a basic break beat. Couldn't match Beastie Boys for sheer power at all.
Everything by Nirvana.
>That aside, I fucking hate this albumI can’t help the fact that you're retarded, OP. Seek help.
Most Anco and NMH. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea isn't completely horrendous but it being considered the greatest Indie Rock AND Indie Folk album of the 90s to a lot of people is baffling to me when Lonesome Crowded West, The Natural Bridge, Emergency and I, Perfect From Now On and Elliott Smith's entire discography are like a million times better and more sonically interesting. Also another band I don't hate but one I don't really "get" is Led Zeppelin. They're like the most solid 7 band ever. I'd take Sabbath, Deep Purple and Rainbow any day.
>>129664851some of that stuff has a "stripped down" feel that is pretty interesting though. But im not a big hip hop guy.
>>129664427did you like it before you reached that point?
>>129664427hell yeah, love Hello Nasty. Some truly creative sampling on that alb. "and me" is like 2 steps away from being an anco track. speaking of>>129666554>Most AncoI was completely obsessed with them in the mid 00s but I don't blame anybody for this, especially if they checked it out way later on. Completely impossible to try and explain what the "indie" landscape felt like being a teenager at that time right when you're hitting your drugs phase and finding anco. That whole run from sung tongs - fall be kind I still think is one of the biggest streaks of mega high creativity I'm likely to experience, but it's so hard to tap back into it nowadays. Shit is just lost with time I think. Also it's annoying that people recommend MPP as the way in, because a huge part of the appeal was how much of a change it was for them.I'm with you on NMH though, it's not bad but it's just everybody's intro to indie shit so it gets applauded by a huge amount of people
>>129660177https://www.albumoftheyear.org/album/17093-daniel-johnston-hi-how-are-you-the-unfinished-album/user-reviews/?type=ratings the amount of people rating it 100 makes one thing crystal clear : pretentiousness is a huge factor when rating/praising an album, it doesn't matter how much you enjoyed it, just how "highly regarded" it is, it could be the literal sounds of a man farting in the toilet, if fantano, famous musicians/music publications praise it, so will the herd.
>>129660234they've both aged great, guessing you're very young
>>129660177thrash metal in general sucks ass but I probably wouldn’t get to enjoy some of my favourite death/black metal bands without it so *shrug*
