Brian Eno's more 'conventional' rock albums fail on a fundamental level because he is not a good songwriter. I remember reading that on these albums he valued production and atmosphere more but you can still achieve that while having written good songs. There are a few on these albums I return to (No One Recieving, The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch) but now having seriously listened to his ambient music I can say he made the correct choice in exploring that genre further. Ambient 3 is a masterpiece

people who say eno's "rock" albums were any good are delusional. he's an engineer/producer who got lucky with a few songs that aren't structured particularly well. all three of his normal albums are 75% fluff
