Holy fucking shit, that is bad. Lifeson's parts weren't recorded to be brought into the fore, nor was the snare. You can't "re-produce" an album during the recording of which the "producer" was not on the console. What a mistake in a long list of mistakes. He's even using bad digital reverb to cover-up the bare spots he's making. It sounds like a Rush fan made this at home in audacity.

That album was recorded with the synth lead in mind, the guitar is supposed to sit elsewhere, and did, for like 40 years, and it sounded amazing. These anti-synth fags just won't let it fucking go, long after they've clearly lost the argument.

Neil Peart is the only tasteful one left in that he had the good sense to die.

It's weird, there's a lot more clarity to the instrumentation yet it somehow sounds duller and less punchy. It seems he tried to give it a more "live" and dry sound like he had with the Rush albums he produced, but that really wasn't the point. They wanted a sound with lots of synths and gated reverb.

The issue, aside from P/G not needing a remix at all, is handing it off to someone who was not involved in the recording process.
Hasn't anyone noticed this never works ever?

Imagine trying to remix Hugh Padgham who has a very particular way about mic placement and desired clean sounds before he even starts "working." Terry Brown was in there for every step of Terry Brown albums. Giving him some pre-recorded tracks to throw together is amateur hour stuff. At least they're not charging like 400 bucks for this slop.

It was expertly produced.
There's a reason even people who hate "the synth era" like this album. He knew how to weave it into the existing dynamic, and every producer since just followed that lead.

Terry Brown is 79 years old.
He can barely produce a bowel movement anymore.

It's crazy that Peter Henderson was a last minute replacement and they never worked with him again. It was a perfect sound.

I dunno, I always liked the atmosphere. Its basically proto-2nd wave black metal production on a hybrid new wave/prog album.
