How do I fully grow out of the mentality that something has to be niche or 'elite' taste for me to like it? I feel like I'm almost there but there's a last bit that keeps hanging on. I just want to enjoy what I enjoy rather than enjoying things for contrarianism's sake and stuff like that.

every day get a bottle of rum and something to mix it with. then put on dance music from the 80s

the rum bit is a fun idea too but old pop music is actually the right answer probably. elitism is about feeling better than people based on your choices, but old pop music is fun and there's not really a "choice" because it's already in the zeitgeist, there's no reason to accept or reject it as good or bad. just jam to this shit dawg

What kind of niche or 'elite' taste
>>
>>129670852
Also this post reads a lot like you dont know music and most probably never even made a song yourself
>>
you'll grow out of it once you've gone through puberty and get your first kiss
>>
If you feel like you're almost there you're probably already there. The last bit is actually just autism, where you get triggered by and misunderstand the mere notion that people have different tastes. It can be overcome easily by not taking yourself so seriously, even in times of great overstimulation.

The fact that I listen to albums more often than the common denominator. I'm most proud of the niche 90s power pop.

ah ok ragebait thread, im out, dont need this
>>
maybe that bit is your ego
>>

Honestly? Stop browsing /mu/. Your taste will recover in time, but you have re-train your brain to rediscover music that you actually like.
>>
>>129670852
you've never liked anything initially that wasn't elite? unless this is the case, you'll have to reconcile with your ego that you're not the person you're trying to project to others.
>>

This is the kind of thing that if you want it itll just happen. Just chill OP
>>

When you are stoned you can enjoy even shitty music
>>
>>129670880
Drinking makes my taste much more elitist because I end up genuinely whatever pretentious garbage I only pretended to enjoy before.
The cool part though is that I'll still actually like it when I sober up.
>>
no one really cares and the people who once cared or would have cared if they were alive 15 years ago now listen to top 40 ear bleeders to antagonize people online. you just gotta let it go at this point
>>
Quit spending so much time in online echo chambers and go talk to random people irl about music. You'll quickly realize how abysmally bad the average person's taste is, and that you can put the bare minimum of effort in and still mog 95% of people on the street. You've already won.
Also you need to immediately stop feeling superior listening to "rare" stuff. It's 2026, anyone with an asshole can click a button and find obscure shit

happened around 21 for me

embrace the elitism fuck the plebs
