Are Hewey Lewis and The News actually a good album band or are they only good for the singles?
>>129674103Their albums are 70% singles, so both.
Even back in the day they always felt very dad rock-ish.
they're.... they're okay
Hewey is too black sounding
Small World [Chrysalis, 1988]Miffed when the Dems rejected the title tune as a campaign song--"It just doesn't rock hard enough," an unidentified Harvard pol complained--Huey offered it to George, who found it bland and pointed out that its call for a kinder, gentler planet wasn't very specific. >>129674103I love Huey Louis.
Several years ago, on my way to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, I was in line at some food court type place at SFO when I noticed a huge bulge on the guy behind me. When I turned around for a better look it turned out to be Huey Lewis. He must have noticed what I had been looking at, but when I smiled and said hello, without making any kind of "fan" reaction, he politely smiled back and said hi. I guess living in the San Francisco area, he must be used to guys checking him out. I'm sure he is straight, my gaydar is very good and I got no vibe from him.
>>129674103Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

HEY PAUL
>>129674103I like their Song Hip to Be Square.
>>129674103Fore, Sports, and their first album are good.
>>129674103They have some good deep cuts here and there
>>129674103Nah. Listen to Elvis Costello instead. You'll enjoy his albums much better.
they are a weird band, they are so polished its approaching steely dan levels, but they are allot more palatable to contemporary rock audiences then steely dan were for the most part, they definitely have an albums of singles thing going on, over all a great band and there is not really anything else as upbeat and polished from their era as they were, kinda their own genre
