this is from a bad angle, we can't actually see how much gap is between the coins and the string.

post another two pictures with the same quarters, but with them on the first fret and on the last fret they can fit on. based on >>129674271, it looks like your bridge height is nearly maxed out

Would a closer angle like this work? The first fret i can fit these coins on is the 4th. Everything above the 4th is a tight squeeze but they move around smoothly on the 4th fret.

>bridge height nearly maxed out
Would this be why it's annoying to play after 45 minutes? With the bass i got today I barely need to put pressure
>>
>>129674356
thats pretty average height for a bass imo
maybe a touch high but not at all unplayable

I quit booze and weed multiple times, and the booze was not conducive to precision playing (or stamina). Weed can make you feel like you’re winning when you’re actually losing.

If you use weed as a tool, it can be easier to quit to reduce problem scenarios. I found myself leaving ovens on a few times - especially when I’d have a caffeine-fuel sesh with endless TO-DO lists.
>the slime has a “100 guitar solo ideas” that has such beauties as JUST USE INPUT JACK and PLAY LIKE A BIRD

Also, weed makes me socially retarded around new arthoes. Unless I know them, it’s too hard to overthink and go within; with a gf, it’s bliss. BITCHES KNOW WHEN YOU HAVE A SNEAKY TOKE

AS A TOOL:
>set up your shit beforehand and have everything within arms reach
>record everything and edit it sober
>cigarettes are weed antidotes, so you can speed up recovery
>use UBER if you’re gonna go out
>crossfaded is usually a bad idea; drink kvass or seltzer water if you must
>tuning tends to go out the window, however you can make it sound like gamelan and that’s a treat :DDDD
>>
>>129674356
you want the strings to be more or less parallel to the fretboard,
to me it looks like the bridge might be a little too high resulting something like this (angle greatly exaggerated ofc)
also might be a bit of a forward bow from the truss rod being a bit too loose, but based on the bridge that probably isn't the case
>>

tune bass, put capo on first fret, fret the 17th fret, try to slide a business card or hallmark card under the string at the 7th fret. if it barely touches the string that’s good, if it slides in and there’s space between it and the string, tighten the truss rod a 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn depending on if the gap is big or not, retune check again. I recommend detuning a little before doing this. retune, check string height at the 12th fret. you see that hash mark right below .125”? that’s where I like my action to be but you may get some fret buzz.

That picture is exactly what's happening with my strings. It's getting elevated as it goes down the fretboard. With my new bass its more or less even. Or if there is an increase in height I can't tell.

>>129674519
I did this test and there is a good amount of space between the card and string. Couldn't get a picture of it but I'm just going to take my bass to the music shop around the corner from my house. I'm sure they'll do it for free

let's see your bridge from the side, at an angle would be best. Your nut seems fine, my guess would be you have either to straighten the neck a tiny bit or you can maybe just lower your bridge a little bit more.

Not much else you could do on a p-bass desu.
Also I don't think you need to buy the Sadowsky Just-A-Nut for your Fender. Your nut is fine and I really don't see you lowering your strings on that side any more without getting some major fret buzz. If at all you might want to invest that money into another bridge that may allow you to get your strings even lower.

as long as it was card stock. since you don’t have any measuring tools we are really shooting in the dark. good relief for bass is like .008-.010” and card stock is .012”, printer paper is like .055” so really not a lot of room for error. it’s not a big deal to adjust a truss rod but do whatever you feel comfortable with

it’s unfortunate that most guitar stores see setups as an extra way to get money from the customer and not as a complimentary service that is designed to move more instruments.
>>
>>129674634
If the height screws of your bridge are maxed out to it's lowest, there's a cheapskate poorfag's fix. Add a shim to your neck joint, a small angled ramp towards the body sided to reduce that angle. Could fashion your own from some scrap wood or even business cards.
Now if it would be detrimental to the "tone".. that's up for grabs, personally don't think so. But if your bass will play easier, you'll play and sound better .
>>
>>129674721
The store i bought my bass from today actually gives you a free setup if you buy from them. So that's why I try to go there as often as possible.

I know. That's why I'm practicing out of the hal leonard books. My problem is that I keep letting the open strings ring in between open string notes and fretted notes. I can mute the lower end with my right hand but with the higher end, you need to left your finger off the string without taking it off, but also leave room for the open string above or below it to ring fully. Or else you can hear the string hum in the background. You can also make an open string hum by taking it off a fret without having a way to mute it. It's tedious

I was at a live gig of a o coverband/revival band tonight and the maintenance was insane. the guitarist swapped his guitar maybe 12 times for 18 songs and the bassist didn't even switch bass.
Worst thing is that it didn't even appear to make such big of a difference - going from the Kashmir guitar to a Les Paul and then to a meme 2 neck Gibson SG.
The songs rule and I love the writing, but the gearfaggotry is kind of lost on me.

been watching these Paul Gilbert videos, we know that his hand is massive but i think what makes his hand range more impressive is that he really likes those fast licks where he uses his pinky and ring fingers very fast. i feel like it's the least trained combination because you might think your middle finger is easier to control.

Might sell my Fano today. It’s a great guitar but I just never play it anymore. I bought it to have something that sounded like a Gibson but felt like a Fender but now I’d rather just play a Gibson or a Fender instead of compromising with it in the middle. Whenever I want P90s I’d rather just play my LP while this just sits there. That’s a lot of money in one guitar that never gets any use anymore and I can put that money into a guitar that I’ll actually play.

What are some cool, essential bass tones? I've had a musicman and then a jazz bass, not really into p basses
>>
>>129675900
When my friend was changing my strings she broke my g string. Instead of buying a new pack of the same strings I just got a single string from the store.
>>
>>129677922
>I’d rather just play a Gibson or a Fender instead
Poor fano, he chose the snappy headstock and the uncontoured heel
>>
>>129678042
If you like the jazz tone but aren’t into the p bass sound you should consider wiring the jazz for series. You could add a push pull pot to do this. I have hardwired a jazz in series before but you can’t switch back. My set up now is concentric volume and tone controls for each pickup and a switch between them for series/parallel.
>>129678053
If your neck is straight lower the strings. If that doesn’t work the neck might need a shim. If you can’t do your own set ups take it to a shop. Those strings are way too high.

Holy fuck I didnt even notice you played flats.
Swap to rounds ASAP if you play with all that distortion. No wonder your tone is always so boomy and muddy lmao.
Flats and your Darkglass pedal go like mustard and jelly.
>>
>>129678266
Most famous fretless players dont even play flats on fretless. That's a common misconception because people think rounds would tear ino the fretboard.

Steve Bailey himself made a video abojt that topic not too long ago.

good suggestion, I will continue to use to rounds on everything because it's cheaper
>>
>>129678471
I mean flats are more expensive to buy but cheaper in the long run because you barely have to replace them, some never do.
I have LaBellas on my five string that were 90 bucks but have been on it since 2021. I have spent several times that in 25 Euro rounds for my other fiver.

Thanks, appreciate it. Last singing tone was accidental feedack from the amp, accidental fun stuff. No worries, noody's fault but mine. If anything I'd like to request shredbeds that are less rubato (but not necessarily uber robo quantized to a click track) and uses some modal modulation/interchange stuff. I really wanna get better at playing changes. Cheers

>>129679122
For noise induced hearing loss, it's more of a volume and exposure length thing. With better isolation from closed back over the ear cans or even in ear stuff, you may find yourself not having to raise the volume too much to hear the detail that you'll have to raise the volume for otherwise. Like how a blaring marshall on a 4x12 is loud but liveable in an open field but it's a death sentence if you try to play the same thing inside an isolation booth. Rule of thumb is if other people have to raise their voice to have a conversation its probably too loud for prolonged exposure.

HSS Strat or Superstrat for almost everything. Preferably with S-1/coil splitting.
>>

anything as long as it has two humbuckers
>>

A bit oxymoronic but yes 2 humbuck les pauls have worked in those genres for decades past. Can't go wrong with a Seymour Duncan JB bridge and a jazz neck.

I'm biased and partial to a HSH superstrat with a split/tap/single coil simulation with a floating bridge that is blockable

Im loving it so far, i just have one question
So when i turn on the shimmer mode and all the other knobs to 10, and i put on just a bit of gain on my amp, the amp speaker starts clipping when i play the notes over 12th fret, especially on higher strings. It sounds awesome, i just wish it wouldnt clip. Does anyone have any idea how to fix that?

Goal for bass today is to learn how to play a walking bass line
>>
>>129681273
QRD?
>>
>>129681760
technically your standard blues basslines are walking bass lines but the fact that they’re repetitive and don’t really drive the harmony forward makes them very rudimentary (bad) walking lines. you can start there and add chromatic and approach notes piece by piece, chord tone substitutions inversions etc and be well on your way to making walking lines
>>
>>129681821
You think I should learn some blues songs or is there some simple method I can just apply to a scale or chord and practice that way?
>>
>>129681840
what kind of music would you eventually like to play
>>
>>129681866
Experimental noise rock would i guess be my first genre I want to tackle. My end goal is just doing whatever genre I feel like doing all across the board. Noise rock would be where I want to start i guess but nothing would be permanent
>>
>>129681916
well idk if jazz will help you theoretically in a genre as amorphous as noise rock, but you can at least get a feel for your scales. pick a chord progression, get a feel for your triads (1,3,5). do it until it seems like you cant fail because youre also developing your ear and what it feels like to move harmonically through a chord progression. add your 7th interval (major/dominant), then work on connecting the chords together in a seamless way through chromatic and scalar approach notes. thats really all there is to walking basslines but the mastery comes in writing something that has a strong melody and ever-forward movement that doesnt feel repetitive and doesn't clash with the harmony. that will require a strong understanding of the fretboard to apply inversions and scalar approaches across multiple octaves especially when the chord progressions get funky. you could learn some blues basslines sure but its nothing you cant figure out on your own.
>>
>>129682022
practice more than you probably think you should because there are stages to learning music:
i can't play this, i can barely play this, i can almost keep up with the song, i can keep up with the song, i can play this in my sleep. you really need to make it to "i can play this in my sleep" because thats the stage where you can actually start listening intently to whats going on in the music and react to it.

Years ago I was robbed and all my guitars were stolen. I checked all the pawn shops and music stores in my area looking for my stolen gear, and I knew one of the pawn shops had a nice looking golden Toronado that was affordable. I walked in prepared to purchase it and found out it was gone, after sitting there for months. I was even more bummed that not only were all my guitars stolen, I couldn’t even find a suitable replacement without having to drive to a different city or check the internet. So I did check eBay when I got home, and discovered the golden Toronado from the pawn shop, some cocksucker had bought it to flip it on eBay for a hundred dollars more than it cost at the pawn shop. If I ever find my stolen guitars I will steal them back. If I ever find out who flipped the golden Toronado I will flip him.
