>>129683562I appreciate that you're taking my challenge and making a separate thread for it even though you're my dedicated impersonator. At least you're not egregiously claiming she's more talented than Beethoven or more beautiful than Aphrodite. As much as I appreciate Maggie Rogers, never in my life would I ever compare her two either.

>Surrender [Capitol, 2022]>It so happens that in early 2016 I briefly tutored unmistakably bright-and-a-half NYU senior Rogers, whose plan to write an Alanis Morissette 33 1/3 was shelved when Pharrell Williams, then artist in residence at NYU's Clive Davis Institute, heard something in "Alaska" that made her the biggest star the Institute has ever turned out. But it wasn't until early 2019 that Capitol dropped her Heard It in a Past Life album, which I'm not the only one to find overcooked the way multiproduced major-label debuts can be. So I was chuffed to learn that instead of rushing to follow it up Rogers took time off to earn a master's at Harvard Divinity School as she pretty much less simultaneously came up with this cleaner and more focused long-player. Sonically, although with input from Harry Styles producer Kid Harpoon I bet, the music here bears the mark of a singer-songwriter who also leads her own band. Not that it's anything like spare. But despite its orchestral dimensions it projects plenty of detail--strident, yet so intricate that its intensity has a well-wrought delicacy to it. Although the themes are more emotional than erotic, there's plenty of eroticism in there--some spirituality with an appetite for permanence too. At 28, Rogers is no longer any kind of post-teen. You can tell. A-

>>129702987Yeah, the music video for "That's Where I Am" is a good one as is the song itself. For me, Surrender's first 7 tracks are all strong, but "Symphony" and "Begging for Rain" grew on me. "Satellite" is my absolute favorite as it's deeply stirring and emotional without being maudlin. Remarkable she already possessed immense talent at age 17. Right of you to rank "Want Want" at #3 as that was my very first Maggie song. That song is the soundtrack to my reinvention. And yes, on "Wolves," you heard Maggie strumming a Banjo. Here she is strumming it live:https://youtu.be/by8KasYibdY Curious you rank "Overdrive" or "One More Afternoon" as your worst. What was it about "Overdrive" that put you off? I can understand why you'd be a bit more hesitant on "One More Afternoon" as it could be seen as overly sentimental on account of it being about the death of her first love but "Overdrive" hardly seems that way. If anything, I find it to be a powerful opener, but maybe you found it a little overbearing. I totally understand why "Anywhere With You" would actively repel you, but she performs best when she bleeds.
>>129705376overdrive is grating to me. don't like her voice on it. I'm guessing she doesn't use aurotune, but her voice sounds very different on it. the music is very mismatched as well. the drawn out slower parts seem out of place and the whole songs gives me an unpleasant feeling.
Maggie!
