At what age did you grow out of metal, /mu/?
>>129701444>grow out>still has Jackson
I wonder what the dude listens to now
Black Metal is a mature genre for mature men
At first I stopped listening to metal around age 18 when I started college because I thought it wouldn't be perceived as cool. Then once I finished growing up and realized that caring about how other people perceive your taste in music is utterly pathetic, I started listening to metal again.
Uhm at some point during high school.I think back then (90s) I switched to grunge, then went deeper into alt stuff all the way to Nick Cave, Neubauten, triphop. And never looked back. But recently I've been relistening some metal that I still like, like Maiden

I miss these threads :'(
Metal music is one of those genres where if it's someone's primary genre they're probably not an interesting person but only an utterly uninteresting person is incapable of appreciating at least some aspects of metal.
I grew out of metal when I was 15 but I got into hardcore instead which is even more “embarrassing”
>>129704607>he's "embarrassed" for enjoying something despite no one knowing his taste because he could just not share it with anyoneThe result of the terminally-online. Despite having the privacy of his room, he still cringe because he relates with anonymous conversations as if there are happening in the same room.
>>129704607I was listening to Knocked Loose recently (they're fine) but I remember them being advertised as hardcore. I listened to them and realised it was basically metalcore.I'm not crazy about metalcore. I like a decent amount of the hardcore punk stuff from the 80s, though. I'm half convinced that these bands are promoting themselves as hardcore now because it has a far better reputation than metalcore
>>129706769Check out earlier Knocked Loose. They were for better or worse a genuine hardcore band
Tbh I grew into metal in my late 20s. I always thought gnarly black metal and grindcore was fun, but as a teen I preferred things like art punk and industrial because metal sounded too conventional and posturing. In my early teens garage rock revival bands were the most exciting thing going, and that led me to underground things like art punk and industrial. In my early 20s I guess I was getting more sensitive or something because I got into post-hardcore. Then by my late 20s indie got really wimpy and lame, and suddenly black metal, doom metal, grindcore, and tech-death got way more interesting and experimental than anything alternative. If you want music that's raw and genuine, the metal band Warning is just as effective as Joy Division. I really think the most exciting rock music in the early 2000s was in indie, and now it's in metal.
>>129701444I was lucky enough to be accepted into the cool crowd with the kids who never even had the misfortune of having a "metal phase."
