Everytime I watch some old rock band videos on Youtube, there's always this comment about "the good old days" when band didn't use ear monitors while playing on stage.
I mean, what's wrong with bands using technology to give a better performance?
>>
it doesn't give a better performance
>>
it gives you the ear cancer
>>
I'm surprised "gay"mes hetfield isn't using in-ASS monitors

When reality meets...nothing. In ears are cancer. No further elaboration necessary.

>It's supposed to be shit! Perfection is bad!
Not their problem if you have low standards.

In-ears make the performing musicians slaves to a metronome. Live performances start having less 'soul' and be just another performance of the studio version rhythmically. Without in-ears, bands have the freedom to drift in tempo intentionally if they want, but the real beauty might be when they do it unintentionally. Ask yourself why the good live album is becoming a dying breed.

They're no different than wearing headphones on stage. Would you go see an act if they were all wearing headphones?

The vast majority of people don't even understand the purpose of IEMs as proven by most of the posts in this thread.

They do not. That's the fault of the click track somebody chose to play over them. You can always choose to use IEMs as a safer replacement for on-stage monitor speakers instead.

Bait or retarded? Your call pal
>>
>>129738681
because it's hard to hear what the band is playing as the speakers are pointed outward from the group.
>>
>>129739932
Im not him but do you genuinely think trained musicians need a click track just ticking in their ear?
It's all the other instruments

Fuck another meathead

Bands have effectively always been playing to a click since the advent of IEMs. At least the drummer does, who will then inelastically follow predetermined BPMs and by extension the whole band will, too. It really is a case of technology being adopted blindly regardless of the consequences. Because you're right that they could just use IEMs purely for monitoring but in practice every band who uses them also plays to a click. If you're benefitting from one convenience of the tech you might as well benefit from all of them, and that is how soul goes away.
