Why did hippies make him so asshurt? Was it contrarianism?
He predicted and made fun of the fact that they were just making themselves retarded with drugs and would sell out their lofty ideals the moment it was convenient. He was correct.
>>129768877Hippies pissed off anyone who's ever put effort into something, be it art or wageslaving.Hippies said a lot of shit, loudly at that, but they didn't take much real action. They'd rather get high and sleep in at the commune, they rarely ventured out of their own echo chambers/drum circles. Their children grew up to hate them as well, and became grunge musicians.
>>129768877hippies loved communism. Zappa hated communism his family was under it.
>>129768930>would sell out their lofty ideals the moment it was convenient.Show me ten (10) youth movements/trends that didn't sell out when they got the chance
>>129769084I don't have to because I'm inherently cynical on this and so was Zappa. You win.
>>129768877He was like a 4chan user who thought he was so much smarter and better than 'the normies'
>>129769121it's not being cynical when you're just witnessing reality
He actually lived around hippies, they weren't as common in other states
>>129769039>his family was under it.I thought he was Italian
>>129768877looks like a hippie to me
>>129769175Hes just like me fr
>>129769254He was, anon's just hit the bong too hard
>>129769254the CIA rigged the 1948 italian election
bunch of fucking midwit pseud niggers thinkign they're better because their idol sampled a washing machine over badly played blues riffs. Fuck you and your jew nosed bozo trying to be a meta rockstar or some shit
>>129769084its not about movements but persons
>>129770687you write like a pseud cause you're actually one retarded faggot
>>129768877I think he just hated hippies because they were unserious people who made playing basic 3-chord songs a virtue under the guise of them connecting with the people. They were less about music and more about spreading their hollow messages and slogans. Punks felt the same way as Zappa but they also played shitty 3-chord slop, just angrier versions of it. I think Zappa also hated Punks for similar reasons
>make hippie music with extra chords so artistic
>>129769039>hippies loved communismNo, they didn't. The New Left counter-culture was a reaction to the Old Left, which did love communism but became irrelevant after the 50s.
>>129768877he didn't like hippies because he knew that they were politically naive, their aesthetic was quickly commercialized and they still thought that they could use it as political leverage. On We're Only In It For the Money he talks about "peace and love" in the face of police brutality and systemic corruption. Lots of other artists from that era don't look back on the hippie era fondly. I was recently watching that new Beatles documentary where Paul, Ringo, and George mention being disappointed by the hippie movement in San Francisco. Zappa was definitely a contrarian, but he really nailed the pulse of the hippie movement.
Here's the thing about hippies, is that they weren't really about the music, they weren't even really about the politics either, that's kind of a post hoc rationalization they came up with to defend their lifestyles. In reality, being a hippie was really all about being a teenager/young adult smoking weed in a van and having lots of sex with college arthoes. It was a lifestyle first and a movement second. Not saying there's anything wrong with this, but I think what Zappa was trying to get at was that they weren't really musicians. I think that's where his hatred mostly comes from, not the hippies themselves, but the hippies and hippie lovers who looked passed all the drugs and sex and partying and and tried to rehabilitate them into something they weren't. Like Zappa's music and lyrics or hate them, but you can't argue that he was a musicians musician, he worked his ass off in the studio, so I can easily see why hippies pissed him off.
hippies sucked, they were smelly and thought they would change the world with the power of love and flower power. it was all a ruse to get laid and do drugs.the counter culture was hijacked by libtards, it was created by guys like jack Kerouac who hated the hippies and jews and was a proto pol tardthe hippies all ended up selling out and voting for Reagan anyways, zappa was right to hate them. punk was more authentic in its transgressive nihilism than hippies were in their utopian hedonism.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFePpwB_hF4
>>129773987this is pretty much correct.
>>129768877It was just banter you autist
>>129774031ableist bigot
He wants to make money and hippies are all about free love, free giving, free everything.
>>129774308>that quoteAnyone else remember the RYM review?
>>129768877Zappa was a beatnik in the late 50s and saw his faggy subculture replaced by a new faggy subculture
Zappa was a lolbertarian nihilist who saw any and all popular subcultures as a thing to resent because they appear happy while he is miserable
>>129774031you can say that about anything
>>129769175then why does 4chan hate him?
>>1297752354chan tends to hate what reminds it of 4chan
Actual oldfart here and I'm tickled pink that Frank makes kids seethe despite being dead 32 years now.He made kids seethe in the '60s and '70s too. Especially small town hicks.
i always thought Zappa was a hippiei mean he looks like one
Beefheart was the way better artist and he embodied hippyism in his own lense true to himself. Beefheart died with the same woman he loved for all those years I think the same woman who helped him write Observatory Crest
>>129775252Small town hicks are unironically better people than him and (You).
>>129775565Beefheart and Zappa are one and the same
>>129775580nah, i don't like dumb ignorant people
Because he was CIA
"The hippie lifestyle is really a middle-class phenomenon. It could not exist in any other society except ours with its surplus of goods, products, and leisure time. That's the reason for it, because the generations immediately preceding ours had world wars and depressions to contend with."
>>129768877He was the southpark of the 60s-70s. Always criticizing "all sides" (except his nihilist libertarianism of course).
>>129778618And both are funny. Coincidence?
>>129775252His enemies weren't hicks. They were pretentious hipsters like himself all trying to one up each other. Except his younger years were still in the 50s, not fitting in with many later 60s hippies. He was still kind of a beatnik.
>>129775580They're no different than the city slickers these days
>>129776608>Because he was CIAsauce? Has anyone ever dobe a FOI request and shown definitive proof? No. Some talentless hack writer wrote some sensationalist book to fill his own pockets with shekels.
>>129768877Talentless hack who couldn't hang, couldn't hold his liquor, too weak to handle drugs. And he couldn't write a good song like them either, despite all of his erudite musical education, which drove him nuts
>>129768877Why does Frank keep catching heat for hating hippies but John Lydon never gets criticized for hating on punks for the same reason Zappa hated hippies for? Btw all subcultures are like this, just normies using fashion and music as an accessory to get laid and socialize.
>>129781339>FOI requestnazi dogwhistle
