It's kind of a bummer that all microtonal music sounds the same. Imagine having twice as many notes as everyone else and only using them for Middle Eastern pastiche and goofy chromatic runs
>>129773404they suck. Khurangbin, Wet Lag, and Ginger Root are superior meme bands
>>129773404listen to real microtonal music where it isn't just a schtick on top of rock music if you want it to not sound like rock music. Harry Partch and Terry Riley are both very famous artists that do microtonal shit and they don't sound anything alike. If your ears are trained to listen to music in 12 tone equal temperament then anybody who adds a few extra microtonal notes in there but is otherwise making music embedded in 12tet music tradition is not gonna sound like a super unique harmonic palette to you. Vagine De Peepee is like step 1 down that rabbit hole if that's where you wanna go
>>129773404Listen to Sevish.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HxwZVcjUzY
>>129773404>no one cared who I was until I put on the mask
>>129773404Microtonal music is 99% a shitty gimmick. Classical composers (Renaissance and Modern) tried to do some interesting things with it though.
>>129773602Sevish's music has a lot going on to enjoy, the microtones are just garnish but even that is so well done. The one and only
It's a bummer that people are so uncreative with it. They're just using the novel extra notes for little chungus motifs when they could be building really cool chords and harmonies with it, but I recognize that's really hard.
>>129773404This is just novelty reddit tier shit, math rock but it sounds like dogshit. black midi was better than this and even they were overrated.
Why does traditional microtonal music sound pleasant:https://youtu.be/HMUKAKUH_mc?si=JknEZvbHKVi5Uvu7While every time bands attempt it it sounds like dissonant garbage?
>>129773404They, and their braindead charade, are the best representation of the state of music in the 20s, hopefully more ridiculous asinine crap comes out, let it be known that music is dead
>>129773404Haven’t been to /mu/ in months, I’m glad you guys aren’t falling for this astroturfed trash. It blows my mind that these guys are getting big because of a stupid gimmick.
>>129775183Not even some zoomer tranny friend I sometimes see at live shows is falling for this shit, I was chatting to him at a gig last week and even he saw through this band's gimmicky bullshit
>>129774462Traditional microtonal music is literally just normal music, that's why you like it
>>129773602Sevish is great, but not this link / album. This one is p meh.
>>129773404>all microtonal music sounds the sameThis is not true, this is just not very interesting microtonal music.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlZv13YZzSMIn fairness it's not easy to write in other temperaments, it's just annoying to see something so musically dull getting appreciated because of a gimmick. I highly doubt the people baseding out over ADP are gonna be talking about them in 6 months or listening to them on a regular basis.
>>129773404These idiots are some of the worst examples of "we absolutrly suck so we'll dress up and call it art" I've ever seen. Absolutely horrible. Everyone praising them has to be deaf or so entrenched in irony they've forgotten what music is supposed to sound like. It actually makes me angry how fucking bad it is and how many people are pretending it's not.
they're ok, they're good performers, i am curious about microtonal music & it makes me mildly excited to see indie bands engage with it, but there's nothing very standout about theirs. based on the music alone, if it weren't for the microtonal thing i wouldn't rate it any higher than your average generic math rock band. seems like a cool live band though
>>129775442the new album in April will definitely capitalize on the buzz but that'll be the peak as the novel sheen of hype curdles into yesterday's "oh yeah, those guys" by next year. There's just not enough dynamism in their narrow driving rock scope and songwriting to go anywhere with longevity, though there's always the stoner jamband base. Like there's a reason surf rock isn't still popular. Novelty perfect for the discreet format of a live set like the KEXP video package for viral propagation but not a sound with a real career trajectory and if they lean into experimentation too much that also loses the bandwagoners.
>>129775579I'm a massive conspiratard but even I consider the loominarty to be an absolutely retarded conspiracy.
>>129775442Why do all good microtonal musicians do 10 years of theory and then produce only a handful of songs?Kite Giedraitis is good too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAPzZ9oJYyYAnd Mike Battaglia's other song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGZ0JlMwZpY>>129774025Yes, Vicentino's renaissance piece is one of the best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoEpUcAHL08
>>129775665they have the same management team as Celine Dion. It is not even a thinly veiled plant/forced meme at this point. Rebecca Black tier.
>>129775665it's the rothchilds. it's all out there, it's just that when people put it under loominarty or whatever else, the message isnt as clearjust look at the files loland already the populace doesnt give a shit. truly amazing how mindwhipped we are
>>129775658in the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes...>if they lean into experimentation too much that also loses the bandwagonersthat would be a good thing though. the acts that have the most longevity, like say Animal Collective or Bowie or Bjork or Vecki, are constantly reinventing themselves, chameleons no longer catering to any crowd or expectation
>>129775724they started off as somewhat alien but will move towards humanity. Daft Punk style.
>>129775658you're assuming they're locked into the Buckethead track though. they can always add a band member or two and bam problem solved
>>129775723what part of the algo is the Rothchilds? This goes beyond that imo. The triangle symbols is the same as the pyramid on the one dollar US bill. That is a symbol of far older forces that predate the Rothchilds. That is why they also hide their faces.
>>129775763they should just add some person who only plays the triangle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHmVqFGh0twAre we approaching the renaissance of stylish performers?
>>129775183yeah, i'm pleasantly surprised to see even current /mu/ doesn't care for this reddit-tier "qUiRkY" faggotry
>>129776272current mu only really cares about KPop
>>129776300They're idolfags who don't fit in /jp/ so they had to post somewhere.I wouldn't consider them the core /mu/ userbase.
>>129776308explain the multiple generals dedicated to their slop all over the front page?
>>129773404Wrong.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJ8Bg9m5l50
>>129775616What's wrong with em? The only thing I've watched is that video of Sarniezz. They seem technically skilled with the guitar and drums. Song is catchy and novel. What's not to like? Maybe it's a you problem lol
>>129777793I hate fun things and the joy of others. If it is popular it clearly sucks.
>>129773404costume gimmick music for normies to gawk at for a weekend and maybe catch at a festival powered by PABST BLUE RIBBON
>>129775658>>129775763I feel like their best bet at staying relevant would be to do features with singers honestly.
>>129777949I would like to see a collab with DFA 79.
>>129773426that's debatableplus, none of them are fun like angine de poitrine
>>129777991all of those are more fun than this "gimmick" that is more about proficiency and technical mastery then actual melodic understanding that is central to a good jam.
>>129777949Disgusting suggestion.
I knew what the general consensus here would be. This place used to have great sharethreads 16 years ago, but now it's just misery like the rest of the site. Thank you to the few that posted links, though.
>>129778363I miss sharethreads like you would not believe. So many bands, tunes, etc. I amassed and heard about through friendly anons bumping obscure landfill shit and discussing/debating new shit as it came out.
>>129776300still better than quirkslop
>>129773404It is funny that the arabs use microtonality to communicate beauty and emotion while white europeans use it for janky harsh avant-rock.
>>129779423Those intervals aren't microtonal to Arabs because they didn't didn't autistically obsess over 12TET first like the Europeans arbitrarily started doing at some point.
>>129775183I actually like this band, I just made this thread because I think the philosophy behind the music is very short sighted. Everything is so fake and gay now that I could care less if they really are industry plants, good on the Jews if they continue to push more stuff like this instead of Sabrina Carpenter or whatever.
