He had other issues but it was the drugs that physically changed something in his brain. Most people do stupid things when they're young but they learn and adapt to their own limitations and mental and emotional issues as they get older so they can be functioning people, but if the parts of your brain that allow for that kind of growth is physically damaged, then that can't happen. That's what happened to him.The saddest thing about the whole story are the notes they found in some of the psychology books he had at his house, which he apparently read a lot of toward the end of his life. It sounded like he was trying to figure out what went wrong with him, too.
