watching the RHCP doc about Hillel and his impact was really cool with their origin and the bands that predated and how its your classic dream of bros making a band together but what made me laugh was Hillel does 2 albums with them that aren't as big and are a lo more grounded and simple but they were bros and in sync and then Hillel ODs and Frusciante is like his biggest fan and comes in and they make BSSM and Frusc helps them become world famous and massive and hes all at the end "all I was doing was channeling Hillel Slov this guy I didn't know but wanted to be like" acting like he wasn't overall gonna be wayyyy more important and the original guy didn't have the sound to get them as big. Whole thing just made me laugh because even on the funky shit apparently Frusc wrote better more iconic shit, Slov wasn't gonna write Give it Away sadly.

Rick Rubin made them famous, not John.

how come the two who went on to fame are making goofy, mugging faces for the camera and the two who didn't are stone-faced?
is there a lesson here?

They were all famous the non RHCP guys ended up having other bands and playing bit parts over the years like one dude was on them crooked vultures and the other was in early pearl jam
