when did you realize you weren't gonna be a famous musician like you'd hoped?
>>
that dude had it all, then ...drugs
>>
I never thought I'd be famous, what really killed me though is between my misc groups of friends I had like 4 bands age 17 to 21 and all of these dudes didn't value the classic bros jamming vibes we had good and bad and everyone gave up when we all sounded like the origin story to numerous underground and later bigger bands, still nobody appreciated it enough, numerous projects 2 of us stuck together but then the third or 4th guy would not jell with someone and move on and maybe play with someone not me but never go further either

>be my uncle (49yrs old)
>go out last summer (I stayed with him August)
>big reunion with his best friend from high school
>friend is unmarried
>friend has no kids
>says to friend, "remember how we wanted to be rock stars? lol"
>friend: "I still want to be a. rock star"
>uncle: "haha! yea--"
>looks up, friend is dead serious
>friend barely plays guitar, doesn't sing
>Uncle T was pretty sad about that all week
>>

if he played guitar regularly, sang, and wrote occasionally it wouldn't be as sad because at least he still makes his personal effort and foray
t.will be that but with kids and playng more

is it possible to get famous naturally?
>>
>>129791466
daniel johnston was my inspiration to do it but that was in the 90s
>>
I never wanted to be famous, just wanted to make a living playing music. I did for a while, but its not a glamorous life. Im glad i got out of it and do what i do now, which is just a different part of the food chain essentially, but a lot more stable and well paid.

Mostly just not enough money. Most musicians, even well known ones, have side gigs where they do other stuff, being a "musician" is a state of mind and not always what pays the bills. For me deciding not to keep going was a few things. A lot of people want to do it, some even free, and that just skews the market, a lot of people see it as a hobby. Even seeing touring as a kind of vacation where they are okay with going net minus. Then theres what you play. It pays more to play covers, weddings, birthday partys. If that your thing, you do you. Then theres your own music, you gotta be a specific kind of pushy and delusional to push your stuff on other people, and the people who can do it are all some level of sociopath, you HAVE to use other people to get a foot in the door, thats just the game. And on the steps there, you have to allow yourself to be used. With the promise that it will turn around at some point. Kind of like a pyramid scheme. I still gig occasionally, do sound tech stuff for acts i like that i want to give a break, but i found my niche and never looked back. Sorry i cant tell you exactly what i do, it would probably dox me.

Exactly as long as you keep the art coming and share it and wisdom with your family that is the dream.

I'm 28 and realizing nothing magical is ever gonna happen.
>>
>>129795539
if it didnt happen in your teen years, unless you're working REALLY hard on it, it never will
>>
>>129795403
how big of a following though
>>
>>129791378
When I bought a tascam 4-track at age 16, recorded myself playing, and heard what my voice sounded like on tape
>>
>>129795651
It's not worth it anyway, it's comfy to make what you wanna make and have a few people like what you make. People like the idea of fame
>>
>>129795403
This. It is perhaps cope but being an actual famous musician seems kinda shitty, you lose creative control. Playing the same songs night after night and getting choreographed by some faggy director for a music video seems nightmarish
