Does the Beatles' trip to India and experimenting with Indian spirituality make you think less of them?
>>
As a band no

Solo artists eh
>>
>>129797031
The only person it left an impression on was George, and George really just thought the Sitar sounded cool

The Beagles perfectly matched the cult classic and the mainstream into one, like very few artists accomplished to.

don't you have anything better to do? i can also tell you're new here because old /mu/ HATED this band. we would've probably bullied you for this awful thread
>>
>>129797031
Eh, not really.
>>
They were into Indian shit earlier than their trip. It already shows on Revolver, from all members
>>
>>129797031
Fuck Indians desu

HURR DURRRRR BOY BAND AMIRITE GUYZ

Everything from Rubber Soul to Let It Be debunks your bullshit
>>
>>129797059
Only good song ever made with a sitar is Paint It Black
The Beatles literally just made indian music but with english singing. It was horrible and they should have realized nobody liked it

Would you ever think of trying a new gimmick? All you're doing is advertising the fact that the Beatles live rent free in your head
>>
>>129798139
Dude's been at this for 5 years now. What's the point of trying to think of something new?

Reminder one single Indian sitar playing maestro had more influence on Western and black music than anyone in history. Wh*tes will always be lesser in music. Suck my lund
>>
>>129798192
Ravi was a humble gentleman who would not say such crass things. I don't deny the skills though.
>>
>>129798205
If a fuckwit like OP wants to bring racism into what should be /mu/ because he isn't loved enough in his life then excpect it back. More than the Beatles Pandit Ravi Shankar influenced all the legendary jazz musicians lile Coltrane (who named his eldest son in his honour). Jazz went modal because of him

>>129798238
OP here and I am not racist against Indians. I respect his musicianship, but just coming from my western background I like the Beatles more.

George converted to Hinduism and his Bhakti (devotee) Manor is there for you to see in St Albans

>>129797031
Your wording was provocative. If you are genuine and not trolling then i'll leave there. Hinduism (Sanatan Dharma) is oldest living religion and culture. George converted the others didn't so what? But they were all influenced by Hindu music
>muh sitar
Modes
Microtones
Rhythms
Tunings
Song structure

Not to say Paul and John weren't already great songwriters but if you're trying to say they and George weren't influenced by Hindu music then your insulting the band you claim to adore

Add The Doors guitarist too with The End
>>
>>129797031
everyone did this in the 60s so no not really
>>
>>129798612
>George converted to Hinduism
Why would George convert to Pajeet Paganism and not European NeoPaganism? They're both the same religion except one is practiced by brown people and the other is practiced by white people. What exactly did Hinduism offer someone like George that other religions didn't?
>>
>>129797232
Norweigian Wood is kino and I think that was the very first of the 60s songs to use sitar. The Stones and all the others copied the Beatles of course with almost everything.
>>
>>129800064
Norwegian Wood doesn't use a Sitar, John was mimicking a sitar with his guitar when he was playing it.
>>
>>129797031
Not really. The White Album is a landmark in popular music
>>
>>129800080
George comes in with the sitar after the first phrase, he doubles the part alongside John on guitar.

I checked, and that was the very first use of sitar in a Western recording.

Hinduism is pretty fucking interesting. Way more interesting than Christianism if I'm being honest.
>>
>>129798612
Yeah. And the way he did the Bangladesh benefit concert was proof he was a fundamentally good dude. Maybe the spiritualism made him a better person.

Fundamentally to me the difference is Sanatan Dharma (Hindu, Buddh, Sikh and Jain) is about living in harmony, to do good and not imposing itself whereas the Abrahamaic religions all make their claim as the superior religion/people and forcefully imposed that thought through the guilt trip mechanism

Nevermind even all the philosophy and science stuff of Sanatan Dharma that went to the West via the Arabs you can also see and hear it's influence on South East Asia countries that were once part of the Indian Hindu/Buddhist sphere like
>Thailand
Original name is Siam (as in Siamese cat) which is the local way of pronouncing Shyam - one of the 108 names of Sri Krishna - avatar of Vishnu which is the deity that George was most connected with
>INDOnesia
>MALAYsia
Malay meaning mountains as in Himalayas
>Cambodia
Kamboj empire and Angkor Wat

Their local music has a lot in common

>>129800088
Beatles at their best imo just wish they deleted some of the granny music on it

>>129800355
You could argue about that, at least with all the stuff with Patti, his way with women and he kept a sharp tongue but i suppose he wanted a change within and he found what he needed. I can't compare myself i'm born into it and contented with what it means to me.

Bringing it back to music, i grew up listening to my dad's vinyl of Please Please Me, they were amazing songwriters
>>
>>129797031
It makes me think they really were a psyop. They went to India and didn’t tell people what it was really like
>>
>>129801205
Ringo wasn't a fan of the experience
>>
>>129801205
They were drugged up hippies, nothing they said was based on a reliable experience
>>

It did introduce John to his screeching banshee wife after their Maharishi was replaced with a smart rat.
>>
>>129797031
No it makes me think more of them. Meditation is based.
>>
>>129807378
Absolutely 100%. It has changed my life for the better. don't even feel the need for the hippie hallucination drugs desu.
>>
>>129797031
Ringo said the food was shit and left early and John thought the guy was a bullshit artist. Very relateable.
>>
>>129809023
Yes there was an unsubstantiated rumor that was supposedly spread by Magic Alex.
>>
>>129801205
I've spent time at an Indian ashram. AMA

yes
>>
>>129809023
Before call centers they had guru scams
>>129810083
Did the little Indian fella shag your wife?
>>
Of course TPTB don't want people getting into spirituality and finding inner peace, I get it. The control structures are based on fear, ego, addiction to sensory stimulus, etc. Meditation helps to go beyond that so those methods don't work anymore.
>>
>>129809023
based john

>>

Based fellow Dan fan

The Doors' The End is the best usage of the Indian scale and raga system in western pop imo
