U2 gets hated the same way Imagine Dragons gets hated nowadays. It's not seen as highbrow (enough) and the mass appeal causes resentment from hipsters. Meanwhile, they're both nothing but good for music and their audiences.

as a 90s kid i grew up thinking u2 were a lame boomer normie band but years later i finally gave them an honest listen and their debut (boy) through joshua tree were all actually pretty good
