When the At the Gates with breakdowns clones populate every discussion, it quickly becomes exhausting especially when their most dedicated fans dismiss anything else out of hand especially '80s Metal. That's the reason I hated Metalcore for a long time because bands like Killswitch Engage, Bullet for My Valentine, Killwhitneydead, Lamb of God and Avenged Sevenfold were the only bands anyone wanted to discuss in real life and too many places online.
Converge is so overrated it's unreal. Jane Doe is a piece of shit. I bought into the hype when I was a teenager but listening to it now it's such a hacky, melodramatic, annoying album. That was the biggest ruse of "good" metalcore vs bad metalcore, that Converge were at the forefront of it.

I do not know what Gen Alpha kids are into so much, the oldest are only 17, but based on current rap trends, I'd expect it to get noisier. If I had to venture a guess, white noise breakdowns, and an even bigger focus on layering digital high-gain amps for a wall of noise feel. It'll probably keep the pop pastiche however. These bands are making good money touring now, so I don't expect bands that do away with the pop aspect to be promoted much.I can't help but fag-out when I see these posts. I was in high school over 20 years ago having Converge fans freak out that whatever 2003 bands I was listening to weren't real metalcore. And it's silly because it's never really been defined as a particular sound. Seems like the most definitive characteristic of the genre is its listeners bitching about the newest wave of said genre.
