i just wish those three songs hadn't been so tremendously overplayed and run into the ground. i always want to skip them when i listen to the full album because i've heard them 5,000,000 times

Anyone who's a diehard Oasis fan has a few screws loose kek but it follows the pattern of any diehard fanbase where they privilege the less accessible, obscurer works over the popular one with the hits.
>>
>>129804617
This album is pretty overrated, I like definitely maybe alot but most of this album is a skipover for me
>>
>>129804617
I think it’s that most fans (like myself) enjoy the more aggressive stuff on DM and the b-sides. Obviously it’s a classic album, it’s just not as punk as the earlier stuff.
>>
Some Might Say and Hey Now are the best songs on the album for me, and after that Morning Glory. Some Might Say for perfecting and summising everything that had already been great about British rock music from the 60s onwards, and Hey Now for being the most 90s sounding song I know, in a good way. Noelie G is the greatest songwriter of all time, together with Lee Mavers, and itt, and on this board, and irl I enjoy how his music filters plebs. You can line up any artist or band's best albums and they all sack into shit compared to the power of DM and WTSMG (objective fact).
>>
>>129804617
I don't think it's overrated, I just like DM and Be Here Now better. Simple as.
>>
>>129804617
Oasis is the textbook example of overrated. The Gallaghers being complete douchebags doesn't help in the least.

Couldn't agree more OP. Morning Glory is by FAR their strongest album. It's the reason they became a worldwide phenomenon. It made them a household name. It's the reason they played two record-breaking nights at Knebworth to 250,000 fans in 96. It's the album that made the snooty UK music press look embarrassingly out of touch for having ignored (then conversely made them look even more foolish when they fell all over themselves praising the utterly shithouse follow-up album, Be Here Now.)

There isn't a weak moment or false note anywhere to be found on Morning Glory. It's literally all killer no filler. Wonderwall is up there with Smells Like Teen Spirit as one of the most iconic songs of the 90s for a reason. My grandparents know Wonderwall. People who haven't been born yet could sing at least half the chorus.

And yeah Oasis fans do themselves no favours downplaying this album or pretending their other stuff is better. I mean, you're talking about one of the biggest bands on the planet. There's no hipster cred to be had here.
>um well ackshually, real fans such as myself prefer the first album because it's, like, nowhere near as good or something
It's like trying to be pretentious about Taylor Swift.
>ackshually OG swifties like me agree that she stopped being a true artist after the 2009 vmas because too many ppl started liking her and I don't like liking things too many other ppl like
Anyway how good is Cast No Shadow? Seriously people don't talk enough about that song. Or about how well the interludes of the Swamp Song scatttered throughout work to make the album feel like a soundtrack. And Hello is one of the best album openers ever, just as Supernova is the perfect closer.

The B-sides were better than most of the album tracks
>>
>>129804646
>Columbia
Their best tune along with Whatever and The Masterplan
>>
>>129806235
Those tracks are way too good to be B-sides. Pity he didn't save a few for the third album. Talk Tonight is better than all the songs on Be Here Now put together.

Oasis??? Fucking Oasis? They were totally obscure in America. Are you joking? Like I can’t believe it. I can't believe Brits are this persistent in their delusions about Oasis. Oasis was never popular in America. They were always literally whos. In 2026 and in 1996 and always.

They had no impact on American culture or media whatsoever, even in the 90s. Nobody knew the band Oasis or the Gallaghers. No tv or movies ever referenced them. No media outlets gave them coverage. None of their music got play except wonderwall (as a joke song). Oasis was a total nonentity in America, totally unknown to 99% of the population and it makes the bongs seethe like nothing else.

Name an Oasis song that got radio or MTV play that wasn’t Wonderwall. You literally can’t.

Oasis were utterly dwarfed by every metric by every other global band in the Nineties, especially Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins, both of whom outsold Oasis in their home country. They certainly had a one flash-in-the-pan hit in the US, the same way fucking Chumbawamba or OMC did, but they are just not an important, relevant or meaningful band. They were a mediocre pop band of no lasting import.

Even in the UK, look at how many contemporary bands use Strats instead of Les Pauls. There is not a single person in the world who picked up a guitar and started a band because of Oasis. There is probably not a single person in the world who can name any member of Oasis.

This shit was kind of funny the first thousand times but now having to trot out every single fact over and over again is just getting tedious. Oasis was extremely obscure not just in America, but in every other country not called England.

t. lived in buttfuck Minnesota and has a warped definition of "obscure" as a result

they weren't as biblical as they were in the uk (i'm led to believe they were inescapable over there for a few years) but they were absolutely not obscure in the US in any way. the three songs mentioned by op charted quite well and anyone who watched mtv (aka everyone in the 90s with a passing interest in music) was exposed to them regularly
