Some years ago there was a dude who spammed this band all day
>>

That was Eric Bachmann from the band, shilling himself imbred/bengalfag style
>>

icky mettle no question. vs the greatest of all time is also great, vee vee has a few good songs, not much beyond that point is worth it imo
wrong and lowest part are free are their best songs

Why does no one elaborate anymore?

tho i dont know this one
>>
>>129805351
yeah ts how i got into them, still not top 5 of the 90s indie rockers, not top 10 prob lets see
>Pavement
>Built to Spill
>Modest Mouse
>Mercury Rev
>Guided by Voices
>The Wrens
>The Apples in Stereo
>Neutral Milk Hotel
>Microphones (though i tend to exclude indie folk)
>Liz Phair (shocking i know)
after all those Archers might come in, and then Elliot Smith whom i find overrated outside a few songs
>>
>>129808475
>pavement
hate this shitty band so much
>>
>>129805404
i like Web in Front and Plumb line

>>129808475
just remembered Sebadoh, might swap microphones out since they are such outsiders
>>
>>129808488
Elaborate?
>>
>>129808475
Whats the reason for most 90s indie rock groups being so faceless. It's like they have to compensate it with quirky antics too cool for school shit
>>
>>129808520
Overrated, lazy, “2cool4u” schtick that attracts midwits like flies to shit. I think people that like pavement are the same people who listen to shit like unwound and exclaim “whoa so freakin hardcore dood!” without ever getting any deeper into the genre they’re from
>>
>>129808488
its a you problem if you cant hear their merit
Summer Babe, Gold Soundz, AT&T, Kennel District, Rattled by the Rush, Unfair, Loretta's Scars, Jackals False Grails, Here, Feed em to the Lions, Cut Your Hair, Silence Kid, Grounded, Best Friends Arm, Grave Architecture, Half a Canyon. Thats almost only their first 3 albums, 4th is good too and they are packed full of good B sides in their deluxe editions. Unseen Power of the Picket Fence, Coolin by the Sound, All My Friends, Same Way of Saying. They have soul, they have attitude, they know how to have fun. Malkmus played guitar creatively and wrote eccentrically but always knew how to tap into that emotion. You probably don't get it because Malkmus is undoubtedly "cool" in a hipstery sense and you prefer the indie rockers that are sadboys or autists.
>>
>>129808546
>faceless
you mean like lacking attitude? Most of those bands I listed have singers that yell from time to time. Pavement, Built to Spill, Modest Mouse (especially) they all have great yelled vocals, and attitude when its called for.
>>
>>129808575
Pavement is for pseud faggots like yourself. Their guitar playing is shit, the songs are lazy, and that’s part of their inherent “appeal” which is just more midbrow bullshit to attract söyboys like yourself.
>>
>>129808475
>Liz Phair (shocking i know)
naw man liz phair rips
>>129808509
>Web in Front and Plumb line
not a bad song on the album imo, good picks
>>
>>129808589
>pseud fags
So I'm sure the rest of my ten was all bad too then? Of course your pussy entry level ass won't listen to the list of Pavement songs I put up but I'll make it easy and say Summer Babe is a perfect song back to front with excellent guitar. That alone makes them one of the best. Nothing shit about Malkmus guitar playing, he doesn't shred but he plays on point and achieves a sound entirely of his own.
>>
>>129808631
And that “sound” he achieves is shit. It may be “unique” but that doesn’t qualify it to be anything other than that.
>>
>>129808594
Oh yeah, Wrong is definitely my 3rd or 4th fave from the album too. For Liz Phair shes one of those indie artists I feel didn't find the right band to flesh out her sound, she needed to sound more like female Pavement when she got the band but the guys she got for Exile didn't make the songs from Girly Sound all that much better. Still good albums though. Elliot Smith is another where hes at his best without the added musicians.
>>
>>129808645
You're filtered by the fact that hes he rare indie rocker that elicits a sound of coolness that you can't relate to. I listed numerous songs that demonstrate good guitar songwriting from chords, to phrasing, to technique. Hes no Doug Marsch but hes one of the indie guitarists that earned his place.
>>
>>129808672
Just listened to summer babe. Yup. It’s shit.
>>
>>129808546
>Nooooo you have to wear makeup and costumes because I said so
Let me guess you are a MCR fanboy
>>
>>129805287
vs. The Greatest of All Time
>>129808475
Only Built to Spill is in the same conversation as Loaf. Lot of meh Criticbabby bands.
>>
>>129808696
its guitar solo is great but more than anything you're lacking an ear and a soul if the bridge
"everytime I sit around I find I'm shot"
part doesn't hit hard. That earned its place in /mu/ history.

>>129808718
Archers is mogged so hard by a band like the Wrens which does a similar sound much better. The rest of the list is distinctly different, can't really compare anyone to Modest Mouse and bands like GBV are just pure soulful songwriters without the full band jam sound. Mercury Rev up to Boces is just all around a better band and sound than the whole list besides BTS at their best.

ill add those 3 to my list, I got a lot of good indie rockers delving into elephant 6 (elf power for one), then theres also bands like Sparklehorse I found a few years back
>>

>>129808836
fuck it make it easy on me, whats the best album by each of those that I should check out. otherwise I'd just grab their first also I remembered Lync

>>129808475
recently found Lync and their one album is good enough to be in a top 10, now I can knock off all the indie folk which is good but has a bit of a contrasting sound
>>
>>129808797
i cant even find Melting Hopefuls Space Flyer on soulseek, thats real indie right there, thinking about buying the CD and then I'll just have to buy an attachment so I can get the tracks on my laptop

Interesting that Icky Mettle by AOL is the only album featured on /mu/ favorites chart, along with Modern Life Is Rubbish, to be neither bolded on rym, nor have the "must hear" on aoty, and both were released in 1993...
>>
>>129808647
yeah you're probably right about that, I didn't discover her until way later on, like 15 years after my big "indie" phase, so to me it's kind of refreshing that she's essentially writing indie rock but just separated enough from the aesthetic that I don't have to associate it
>>129808870
ive never heard of them but the track that anon posted is sick, i'll put in some requests on some private trackers and up em on slsk if they come through

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jweoubeBLRo

>>129808836
Some bands like Built To Spill and Eels really blend into the 2000's. Some aren't strictly indie rock but with country or bluegrass style like 16 Horsepower/David Eugene Edwards

wicked I just downloaded footnote and melting hopefuls from youtube and I was gonna put em up on slsk though it seems like I can never find the stuff I put on there, did you hear Liz Phair's comeback album Soberish? Its not on her classic level but a few of the tracks like the title track and the opener really came out strong, the title track especially had me tearing up as I was thinking about both the addict element and the fact that she kinda sold out and that this album was her attempt to return to form
>>
>>129808966
I love Seam, I'll give Boo Radleys a listen
>>
>>129809278
just hit the title track now and I def dig it, gotta scope the rest. I'm like 3 weeks sober from 8 years of an opiate addiction so the addiction element doing something for me too lol

Good on you, opiates are tough because they convince you that theres no way life could feel as good without them. I carry this old coin I got from my DUI class I had to take when I got pulled over blacked out on pills.
>fall seven times stand up eight
Its always been a joke because I would pull it out when I was high as fuck on whatever but thankfully I just have a minor kratom habit these days. I passed every piss test but the pitiful part was after each test id go home and take drugs that left your system quickly and then use piss test calculators day after day to make sure it'd be out by the next test.
>>
Wait hol up... the guy spamming those Archers of Loaf threads 5 years ago (or more i forget) was from the band? Did he confirm it how do we know? I'd do it too if I was on the threshold like that. Like these three >>129808797
Melting Hopefuls have a couple hundred listens on their tracks at best, if they aren't rich kids they probably all have normal careers.
>>
>>129809647
>minor kratom habit
yeah, that's what I was on for 8 years. I just say opiates cuz it's easier to talk about, but I also had a perc and heroin addiction for some years so I just lump it all together. Got off H and became an alcoholic for 3 years, quit, got serious about life and immediately formed a kratom habit that lasted 8 years lmao. I can stomach a lot more kratom than most people so I straight up nodded nearly every night for 8 years, so it's weird to live without it now. Not really sure what to do with myself during nights now.
Not sure how bad your kratom habit is, but have you heard of SR17081? It's a chinese research chem that removes like 90% of withdrawals, was a relatively easy process getting off ~70 grams of kratom a day with it. 7oh is one-shotting people everywhere so SR is getting more popular, but might not be around forever
>>
>>129809673
no chance it was anybody from archers, that anon is just fucking around
>>
>>129809278
got the viva la void EP up there too now. I don't usually keep slsk open but if this threads still alive by the time you see this just quote me and I'll open it again
>>
Eric Bachmann did indeed shill himself here for years, he tried to samefag a birthday thread for himself a few years back and melted down when anons figured it out
>>
>>129809710
under Viva La Void? its not coming up under that

>>129809677
yeah I'd do 20 grams of kratom twice a day so 40 total. Unfortunately I have upgraded to 7OH because its so much easier but it is raping my bank account. I don't even care about the addiction (no hangover and doesn't affect me at my job) but I spend so much money on it its stupid. Right now I buy the packs of 1000mg (5 200 mg tabs) and I usually take between 2 to 3 of those each time I wanna get high. This one place these indians will sell me 3 of those packs for 90 dollars cash and thats the best price I can get on or offline, I'm basically their local crackhead because they hold it until I clear out their supply and then if I'm lucky they restock with not too much downtime. The smoke shop I also go to has the owner personally texting me about their supply and I'm about to tell him I'm too broke to swing in as much.
>>
is Crooked fingers any good, the Archers guy's other band? Also I though of another great indie rocker, Silver Jews and Purple Mountains David Berman's groups, god rest his poor soul
>>
>>129809754
i meant 2 to 3 of the tabs, so 600 mgs max of 7OH, not 2 to 3 1000 packs if thats what it sounded like lel. For anyone who wants to try opiates and never had cool friends thats about as close as you can get, ideally look up the brand before you buy it and get something that says "discomfort relief", they won't say that in the smoke shop.
>>
>>129809754
>>129809771
forgot to rescan my library, should be good now. I'm purplefruit on there if that helps

damn dude, sad you went to the 7oh. I've never tried it cuz I just knew it was a new level to an already pathetic addiction. One of my friends got addicted to it and she called a doctor to try and get subs and the doctor said she was the 5th person that day calling about wanting subs for a 7oh addiction. It's crazy how much that shit is spreading. The headshop on my walk to the coffee shop every day sometimes has people waiting outside for it to open. They give out free samples and pretty much stopped selling vapes, they're just straight up drug dealers now with the 7 and fake weed and fake mushrooms lmao.
You can just get real opiates on the darknet if you want but I don't really want to send you down that path lol, it's no good. Obv gotta test everything though but I got way cleaner drugs from the darknet than I ever did IRL.
But yeah, the money is the real thing that killed me with kratom. Was going through a kilo every 2 weeks which was about 100 bucks from my vendor, and 200 a month is just a stupid as fuck expense when I make 20 an hour and can barely afford my apartment lol. You're doing 90 bucks a day on 7? That's outrageous man. Hope you can kick it easy. Fr check out the SR17081 subreddit if you wanna quit, withdrawals suck ass and that shit works fr
