Courtney Barnett released a new album today lads, what do we think?
seriously is there anything she can't do?
>>129808184I liked it. My favorite track is mostly patient. I relate to the overall message and struggle Courtney is conveying in this album. I think she was struggling with a sort of “mental collapse” and I went through something similar a few years ago. I’ve loved Courtney and her music since 2012, though. It’s different when you’ve been following her for so long and each album is like a journey, seeing how her music has developed and getting just a small glimpse into her psyche and mindset. I don’t really expect the people browsing /mu/ these days to understand, though.
>>129808289I was also big into her around 2012-2015 but my opinion of her has pretty much 180'ed. I think musically she's super boring and lame and her self-loathing shtick doesn't resonate with me at all now that I'm not an insecure teen anymore.I'm listening to the album now, and this bitch just seems self-absorbed, totally lost, has nothing interesting to say, and her bored-sounding bad singing isn't charming at all.I think I'll go listen to the new Tigers Jaw instead
>>129808227/thread
>>129808184I deflowered her. Nice ass
>>129808289I don't think /mu/ would gravitate towards her music either (especially the new stuff) but I thought it was worth making a thread anyway. I agree there's some hints of a mental collapse but the album seems to be more about looking forward and moving on. I wasn't a fan of Things Take Time so I'm glad this was a step in the right direction.>>129808496It's not for everyone. Her new music isn't as focused on self-loathing but I can see how self-healing can come off as boring.
>>129808184leagues better than the last thing she released, might be her best because she actually bothered experimenting with sounds this time around. also no idea how she scored flea>>129808506>Nice assshe's actually disappointingly flat
>>129809864>she's actually disappointingly flatProve it
>>129808945Yeah I agree. There was some songwriting choices that I felt really were a step in the right direction. I think the synths on “same” were great, and the overall energy on this album was way more energetic compared to her last album.
>>>129811521meant for>>129809864
>>129808184Yea for all the real ones you know you know what that album cover is referencing.
>>129811543I’m pretty sure she said herself that it was just a photo of a mantis in her house. What do you think it means?
>>129811605I won't tell. Only real ones know.
>>129811626It means that she’s dangerous to men. Like how a female mantis eats the male
>>129811543it's a penis right?
>>129811543Are you talking about lilo hess?
>>129808184haven't listened to her in a long time since Sea of Split Peas and Sometimes I Sit and Think, convince me to listen to this one
>>129808184Is her guitar playing any good on this one? I liked the stuff she was doing on that album with Kurt Vile
>>129812469pretty collab-pilled sound at times, like the other anon said defo a lot more like classic guitar Court stuff than the last record was.>>129811543you ever been visited by/witnessed them? lore says they are in charge of the program, right?>>129811685>to menaw mate, if only.
>>129811543>>129811605>On a particularly difficult writing morning, Courtney Barnett’s routine was interrupted by a praying mantis hanging upside down from her door frame. A quick internet search informed her that the sighting could symbolize she was on the right path. “There’s a million Google results of random stuff. You take what you want,” Barnett, 38, says with a laugh. “It felt like a sign from the universe.”odd mantis encounters that feel like some kinda sign seem to be becoming the go-to modern symbols of synchronicity in fringe/out there circles. there's this /x/-pilled comic book that just finished its run last week and the author shares a similar story in the editorial blurb. probably just a massive coincidence, but I guess that's what she meant by "you take what you want" - it's all about looking for a meaning in random stuff.
