It's actually in reference to a reused slogan from the Green River days that they had on their t-shirt, Death on Ten Legs. Later on they even had two live albus, Live on Two Legs and Live on Ten Legs.
It's a bit like when they reused that same t-shirt for Mother Love Bone but pasted Andy Wood's and the new drummer's faces onto their ex-bandmates and called it a day.

Its literally called 10 because they named themselves after a basketball player named Mookie Blaylock but he sued them for using his name so they became Pearl Jam and they named their album 10 because that was Mookies number
