Gonna put a down payment on a house later this year, hopefully will finally have enough space and distance from neighbors to practice drums again. I miss them.

Anon you underestimate how thin modern apartment walls are
They'd hear that too
>>

What if you treat the room with some sound deadening?
>>
>>129814016
If you're talking about those foam things you put on the wall they wont do shit, except make the room sound a bit better acoustically. They don't really do anything in terms of actually blocking noise.

Can anyone point me to a real solid erganomic setup guide? I've been struggling to get any serious practice in, either something is in the way or I end up straining myself trying to reach things. Had an okay setup at first but since getting a second kick pedal and moving the snare to the centre I can't get anything comfortable. Rack toms have been difficult from the start though.
Got an 80s Pearl Export, very similar to pic complete with the gigantic port hole.

Finally found the sheet music to in Don't fear the reaper.

just start from scratch, tear it all down cause adjusting one thing at a time never works out right.
>>
I'm slowly building a kit with free stuff. I lack a snare, snare stand, and throne. Once I have those I'll set them up in the garage. I'm mainly interested in playing a 3 piece but I might just start with hat/kick/snare to git gud first.
>>
>>129818341
this is my general vibe
snare between the legs, directly in front, like hands resting on thighs would point to it.
spread legs are angled out, tells you where bass and high hat go.
after that, think about how you move or want to move, about how you might like to do a fill. whats the movement.
i like to use the 'toms as accents on a snare roll' vibe, imagining a flick to the high, flick to the low, no real turning involved.
for me, this turns into your head, neck being the center of a sphere, the radius is your arm reach, so the kit kinda looks like a sphere determined by easy arm movement without any stretching.

>I might just start with hat/kick/snare to git gud first.
That is the basics of rock and roll. You don't have to wait. You can play with sticks on a practice pad or something with a touch of rebound. You can play on your thighs with your hands and tap your feet as if they were playing kick and hats.
>>
>>129813919
I bought a chinese drum pad. It's pretty nice, recommend it.

Start with the bass drum and pedal and find a comfortable spot where your foot lands.
Next the hi-hats same thing a comfortable spot where your left leg lands.
Snare then toms and cymbals.
Make yourself comfortable.

You don't play along to songs?
>>
>>129826016
I do play along to songs occasionally but mostly on edrums, and i only really get to use my acoustic drums whenever i have band practice/gigs which is when i use my ear protection.
>>
>>129826110
I've actually never played edrums. How is it?
>>
>>129826149
It's quite fun actually as long as you get a decent enough kit. Mines a Roland TD07, It's got some solid sounds on it and the dynamics aren't complete shit like a lot of other cheap kits that will just completely ruin the experience. I would still take acoustic drums over it any day of the week but it's pretty good for practice if you can't make shit loads of noise.

Such a fun song to drum. I love changing some of the backbeats in the verses to flams, it works so fucking well with the guitar rhythm.

Is it?

>>
>>129828881
I changed my kit to have my snare tilting in at me and raised it a bit. I'm glad, it's a positive change. Doesn't look like you have a double bass pedal. Those complicate it quite a bit, as I've learned.
>>
>>129828901
I have a double pedal which is where a lot of the trouble started. With a single pedal and the snare off to the left it wasn't so bad, but gets tricky when the snare has to fit in the middle. I imagine I'd have a lot of trouble with it to the side once I start improving though, want to work up to some early Slipknot stuff and I can't imagine the blast beats are going to work very well that way. So gonna have to make it work.

You niggas talk way too much. Go on youtube and watch live videos of actual drummers (the great ones, not the mid idiots) and pay attention to their set ups and go fuck around on your own with it. Stop listening to blowhards. Figure out who the best drummers are and emulate them. Search for their knowledge and invest your time in learning about what makes genius musicians tick. Fuck this soft-ass faggotry. Get good.
>>
>>129829386
Just fiddle around with it until you find something that works.
>>
>>129829711
Of the things that you need to emulate from great drummers the least I think drum positioning takes the cake. It totally depends on your individual physiology and preferences.
>>
>>129829741
agree. people are diff shapes, with diff movements.

>>129829711
sorta midwit take bro

someone might be tall and have gangly arms, some dude might be the opposite some dude might be jack white and put all the drums level for no apparent real reason.

i tilt my snare, but the line of the tilt is at about 10 o clock so i can crack a rim with my left and slide down with my right to the low tom.

I HATE DRUM TRIGGERS
Bring back real bass drums
https://youtu.be/XBkByWSTYXk
https://youtu.be/5U-rSxTTgys
The bass drum has SOVL on the Metallica song, despite Lars' shitty performance. Despite tight performance, the Emperor drums sound awful outside of the double bass segments, which CAN be achieved with just good technique.
>>
>>129813186
I've been thinking about getting a 4 piece dw performance kit, but I think their hardware looks weird.

I can assure you that I have better ears than you could ever dream of. You're the type of nigga that takes Mike Johnston or the 80/20 drummer seriously. Go play to your Chili Peppers records "bro."

can I get a snare drum, bass drum and hihat for cheap? maybe an ride cymbal or tom if im lucky
>>

why dont you go watch youtube videos and figure out what makes geniuses tick?

post some music too

No you can't. Your word means fuck all to me since you are a random anonymous user on an image board, and you haven't posted any examples of your “good taste”.

Most starter drums from the major manufacturers have been excellent for the last 25-30 years. You can pick them up quite cheap on Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, etc. Cymbals are something that are hard to get cheap unless you know what you are doing. If you spend the time to learn about them you can find great deals on great cymbals.
>>
>>129831984
Avoid the cheap, cheap starter sets.
