Posting a bit earlier because last night I nearly fell asleep while writing the postTonight's listen:L.A. Getaway - L.A. GetawayThe product of three talented literal-who studio musicians (Joel Scott Hill, John Barbata, and Chris Ethridge) being allowed to do their thing in an informal setting and delivering the goods. At first glance this brand of cover-laden, soul-infused bluesy rock 'n' roll is quite typical of the early 70's, but these guys do it expertly enough to make the album stand out. If anything it might have been nice to have one more original in place of the Bo Diddley or Chuck Berry chestnuts. As a combined result of weak marketing, unremarkable cover art, and a lack of star power, the album sank like a stone and can still be found cheaply. One of my favourite records of 1971, and that's saying something.9.2/10
