Where do I go with Bright Eyes after this absolute masterpiece?
>>
You get disappointed cause everything else is downhill
>>
>>129840398
Exactly this.
You simply move onto other bands to fill the void and match.
What a time the early 2000s

Followup to my other comment, check out the microphones and neutral milk hotel, they’re not exact but they’re projects that fit a similar itch for me so maybe you’ll enjoy them as well

>>129840384
do digital ash next, you might like it.
>>
>>129840398
Pretty much yeah.
>>
>>129840398
this but also Letting off the Happiness imo
>>
>>129840491
this is what I was gonna say, Microphones and NMH ran so Bright Eyes could walk
>>
>>129840491
I'd recommend This Good Life. No clue what OP's opinion is on post-hardcore or I'd recommend Cursive. Tim's a hell of a songwriter and the acoustic stuff of TGL might scratch that itch

the lua EP from just before that album has a cover on it called "i woke up with this song in my head this morning", it's very different for him but idk why it's always been one of my favs of his, but at the very least that EP as a next listen makes sense cuz of proximity
honestly I'd go back to the beginning, get "a collection of songs written/recorded...", it's super raw, not everything is good, but it's how I first heard him and how I got into him, way the fuck back in like 2004/5.
if you wanna skip the raw/lofi beginnings then just get "lifted...", most people seem to think it's his best. Then i'd say "fevers and mirrors" or "digital ash...". If you're still digging him then just go wherever from there, everything up to Four Winds is worth it if you like him.

I used to love this guy when I was a little emo 15 year old, a lot of it is kinda hard to listen to for me now but I still have some good nostalgia for him occasionally. He's underrated imo. Saw him live in 05 or so where Gillian Welch opened, he killed it hard with the road to joy closer

He does a really good cover of Wrecking Ball by Gillian Welch too. He has his moments but hasn't been consistent like Wide Awake in a while. It happens to the best of em.
>>
I saw digital ash the other day with the original black cd jewel and almost bought it just for the black jewel and i was gonna put one of my own albums in it lmfao
>>
>>129840701
yeah that cover rips dude. Gillian is great too, I just saw her again last summer and she killed it.
I agree though, at the time his shit hit way good, I was the right age and type of emotional wreck for his shit to work on me, but yeah he hasn't been consistent in a long time, I stopped paying attention long ago. I don't even think a lot of his stuff would work on me if I heard it for the first time now, but I remember and can still access that if I need to.

first connor song I ever heard and it's still very special to me. Prob will always be my fav of his even though it's unlike anything else he's done

Gillian is great and very underrated. Love her voice. I wanted to like that Oblivion whatever it's called project Conor had going but Phoebe is just a life sucking black hole in human form and I hope he can get away from her and get on the right track. He's looking rough these days.
>>
>>129840798
damn, I saw a recent live video and i thought he looked good, had some new style anyway lol.
yeah I don't like phoebe at all. A friend made me listen to a whole album of hers on a road trip and a few of the oblivion collab thing songs too and none of it did anything for me. Really just don't get her at all.
Gillian did like 3 or 4 encores which I thought was pretty funny lol. Last one was fly away and hard times of course. Always figured she's like an LA fake country girl but I don't care, she knows how to write and her voice is gorgeous

Back when I was just getting deep into music that wasn't mainstream (like Rush, Zeppelin, beatles, floyd, iron maiden, etc) Bright Eyes was one of the first artists that I dived into and I ended up downloading lke 8 of their albums to check them out. At the time I was downloading all sorts of new artists but I ended up getting more into Built to Spill and Modest Mouse area of indie so I never became all that versed in the Bright Eyes albums so now like 13 years later i still have those Bright Eyes albums but I still couldn't give opinions on more than a few songs because I'm still checking out other artists that I discovered over the years. My basic take was that Bright Eyes were very mid tier indie folk at best and lacked the experimental or personality edge that others had, Contrast and compare was always a favorite

Home. OP bring them Home.

He's looking a bit rough these days. I know he's an old timer now and everyone she's but he looks like he might be drinking again. I hope that's not the case. He has a newish album out, I think. I haven't given it a proper listen. I don't know much about Gillian's personal life but she seems legit or like someone who cares very deeply about old folk music and Americana and I respect that her career has been all about it. I'd love to see her live. Her and her husband's voices work so well together. Just astoundingly beautiful music.

I kind of liked this album. The Four Winds EP is good enough. The People's Key was the first Bright Eyes album I hear years before I knew about their good album. I didn't hate TPK and would even recommend the song Jejune Stars. Imagine Jejune Stars being the only Bright Eyes song you listen to for years.

I had an insanely warped idea of what Bright Eyes sounded like for a while until I finally heard the OP album.
>>
>>129843208
I read it as Lejune and thought Conor was trying to get in on the Camp Lejune lawsuit. Would be kino probably
>>
>>129843140
He has two. One from 2024 and one from 2025 but I prefer the 2024 one. 2024 sounded like him aging for better or worse and 2025 sounded like him playing pretend like he still sounds how he did in 2005 but I personally don't think in a good way.
>>
>>129843234
Damn. I didn't know he was still being prolific.
